One of the focus of the needs assessment, based on the community demographics and health profiles, was Aboriginal Health. A number of health issues and conditions were highlighted, and some (such as tobacco smoking related issues) have received some programmatic intervention. There are a number of other key areas that remain issues of concern, such as hospitalisation rates.

1: Change state policies regarding alcohol outlet density and limit opening hours

2: Increase access to nutrient-dense fresh produce by 50% within the Central

Gippsland region.

3: Reduce the intake of dietary fat, sugar and salt by 20% within the target population.

4: Increase physical activity for indigenous males and females by 20%.

I was thinking more in terms of:

"Preventing Diabetes mellitus amongst young indigenous populations within Central Gippsland".

Considers differences between indigenous and non-indigenous communities in Australia and the gender roles within the indigenous community

Facilitates inter-sectoral cooperation between various stakeholders, i.e. local GP clinics, Indigenous health workers, community elders, sporting clubs, schools, government bodies

Limiting the availability of alcohol and cigarettes creates supportive environments for all community members involved. This policy is sustainable because is provides a long-term goal for the population and promotes overall healthier habits from the individuals affected.
