The students of today have a digital footprint long before they can walk, talk, or log in" (Schwartzbeck 1). <br><br>"Your digital footprint is not only formed by what you post, but also what others put online about you" (Sheninger 1).<br><br>"A passive digital footprint is created when data is collected without the owner knowing, whereas active digital footprints are created when a user, for the purpose of sharing information about oneself by means of websites or social media, deliberately releases data" (Sheninger 1). <br><br>"According to a new <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/number-of-employers-using-social-media-to-screen-candidates-at-all-time-high-finds-latest-careerbuilder-study-300474228.html">national survey</a> conducted online on behalf of <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news/careerbuilder">CareerBuilder</a> by Harris Poll,  <strong>70 percent</strong> of employers use social media to screen candidates before hiring.
