Is the use of satire in modern day society effective and can satire be offensive to some audiences?

I believe satire in modern day can be effective. Satire's on some of the important topics can be effective. People would be able to understand the satire since it would be on an important topic. Some satire's can be offensive to some audiences. Going back to the first question, they could go too far and hurt people's feelings. They could also go too far and target a certain group.

How often have you seen satire in terms of gender inequality? This could be in the form of a meme, video, or even an essay.

I would say I have seen a gender inequality satire before. I do not see them all the time, but they are not rare. People make them to put the issue into perspective. Gender inequality is a big issue.

Would you prefer to read a piece of satire while gathering news on a certain topic? Or would you rather get a news report from a main news network?

I think that I would rather get an actual news report from an accredited source before reading the satire. I feel that I would be able to understand the satire better if I had background knowledge on the topic itself.

Raymond's Response: That's an interesting point of view as many teenagers would prefer a more satirical and comical way of learning, but I would also like to get a real news report from a major news network to assure that I get all of the facts straight.

I would also rather get a news report from a main news report. I feel I would learn more watching or reading about the news rather than reading a satire about it.

Is there such thing as taking satire too far in terms of hurting one's feelings/ targeting a certain group?

I think if the satire is directed to be offensive and it is intentional, then it would be taken too far. But if it's being used as satire should, then I don't think it's an issue.

I believe satire's can be taken too far. Hurting one's feelings and targeting a certain group are definitely some examples. There are also other ways in which satire's can be taken too far.
