Technology developments were more readily adopted by typically the younger people within my firm. We helped develop the AI and as a result, AI certainly increased the efficiency of work - particularly at more junior levels. Maybe encouraging greater training or incentives for adoption could increase usage.

I think that the implementation of AI will increase inequality, both within nations and internationally. I think that those who can afford to implement AI will further accelerate their progress and move further away from those that cannot afford to implement AI in their countries or organisations.

The use of AI and robotics has increased dramatically in construction in recent years. This has primarily been with regards to data analysis and programme management rather than replacing the on site labour.

This does free up the time of the managers to focus on innovation and thinking about how they can improve safety on site. AI and robotics are also implemented for off site manufacture, improving health and safety.

Role of Institutions

Institutions can greatly hinder or decelerate the rate at which technology is growing. A prime current example is the U.S. plans to ban TikTok in three days time. I believe in the majority of cases, there is a major lack of understanding around technological advancements in institutions. This inherent lack of knowledge results in technology that far outpaces protective regulation and legislation. Institution members should seek out advice from experts in respective technology fields and proactively analyze potential scenarios/outcomes of the new technology. This will enable them to form protective policies to ensure positive economic outcomes. These policies can later be amended to ensure innovation is not stifled as tech evovles.

The application of AI is similar to the introduction of other technologies throughout history. New technologies are generally designed to improve existing processes, whether by enhancing efficiency, reducing costs or limitations. For instance, machines have historically replaced human labour in many industries, changing how work is done. In the same way, the rise of AI is likely to replace certain jobs and skill sets in specific industries. However, as has always been the case with technological progress, individuals are expected to adapt and continue growing their skills to meet the demands of the changing job market.

Not having proper regulations, boundaries and their enforcement can potentially lead to mis-use of the tech. For eg, increase in activities like scamming, phishing, morphing of images/ videos have increased difficulties for the world. No doubt, regulations are difficult to adopt, however, the globally the institutions have to come on the same page for defining boundaries and punitive measures for breaching those boundaries.

AI has the potential to widen inequality by concentrating wealth and power among those who own advanced technologies. Automation could replace low-skill jobs, leaving many unemployed while benefiting corporations. Nations with superior AI capabilities may dominate global markets, deepening economic divides. Without regulation, AI may reinforce existing biases and discrimination.

Institutions should be given a free-hand approach and limited regulatory supervision. This will allow companies to innovate rapidly, bringing numerous benefits. As technologies advance, the government can intervene and deter what constitutes acceptable technological innovation. TL;DR: Avoid excessive regulatory oversight until things go awry.
