Americans started to move into Texas because of its rich and desirable land. It had forests in the east, rich soil for growing corn and cotton,and great grassy plains for grazing animals. Texas also had rivers leading to the natural ports of the gulf of mexico. But as more and more Americans came into Texas the tensions of them and the Tejanos increased. Americans resented following Mexican laws. Tejanos thought Americans were difficult to live with and and thought the Americans believed that they were superior and deserved special privileges. The Americans seemed unwilling to adapt to Mexican laws. Mexico then closed the state to further american immigration. Many people wanted Texas to break away from mexico but others stayed loyal to mexico like Austin. A revolution was called by the Mexican president. On February 23, 1836 Santa Anna´s troops surrounded San Antonio. The Alamo held off the Mexican attack for 12 days. On the 13th day the battle was over. Then on April 21 1836 the Texans advanced on the Mexican army and killed more than half in just 18 minutes. In September 1836 Texans raised flag with a single star. they adopted the nickname lone star republic. They were independent. Sam Houston was elected president.
