<p>·Mother died when she was 5, her aunt helped her brother-in-law raise his children</p><p><span style="font-size: 13px;">·In 1824, Charlotte and her sisters Maria, Elizabeth and Emily were sent to Cowan Bridge, a school for clergymen’s daughters</span></p><p>·Maria and Elizabeth got tuberculosis</p><p>·Charlotte returned to school and became a teacher in 1835</p><p>·Became a private governess instead</p><p>·They hired her to live with and tutor the children of the wealthy Sidgewick family in 1839, she hated it and left .</p><p>·Then returned to work as a governess however for a different family, she was disappointed again and recruited her sisters to join her in more serious preparation for the establishment of a school</p><p>·The school was unsuccessful, however their literary projects flourished</p><p>·They published a book of poems, then decided to work on separate novels</p><p>·First book was The Professor, but it was never found, her second novel Jane Eyre was written in 1845 which was one of the most successful novels of the era</p><p><span style="font-size: 13px;">·The book was a critique of Victorian assumptions about gender and social class</span></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Chapter 1 -&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Intro to Jane Eyre, the Reeds and the maids</li><li>Jane Eyre is beaten by John Reed and is locked up in a red room for retaliating.</li></ul><p>Chapter 2 -</p><ul><li>In the red-room</li><li>Where Mr. Reed died</li><li>Thinks she sees ghost and screams to be let out but Mrs. Reed says that she acting and has to stay an hour longer</li><li>She passes out with fits.</li></ul><p>Chapter 3 - causes her to be ill</p><ul><li>Mr. Lloyd - physician, comes to check her health</li><li>Suggests that she gets sent to school.</li><li>She is excluded from Christmas and New Year celebrations</li></ul><p>Chapter 4 -</p><ul><li>Meets Mr Brocklehurst from Lowood school comes to</li></ul>administrate her<ul><li>Mrs Reed - "Mr. Brocklehurst, I believe I intimated in the letter which I wrote to you three weeks ago, that this little girl has not quite the character and disposition I could wish: should you admit her into Lowood school, I should be glad if the superintendent and teachers were requested to keep a strict eye on her, and, above all, to guard against her worst fault, a tendency to deceit. I mention this in your hearing, Jane, that you may not attempt to impose on Mr. Brocklehurst."</li><li>"I should wish her to be brought up in a manner suiting her prospects," continued my benefactress; "to be made useful, to be kept humble: as for the vacations, she will, with your permission, spend them always at Lowood."</li><li>Jane Eyre then tells Mrs Reed everything she thinks about her</li></ul><p>=&gt; This an important part as it is the first time she really stands up for
herself in front of her and wins.</p><p>Chapter 5 –&nbsp;</p><ul><li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Four days after meeting Mr Brocklehurst Jane travels </span><span style="font-size: 13px;">alone to Lowood.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 13px;">On arrival, the day is dark and rainy, and she is led through a </span><span style="font-size: 13px;">grim building that will be her new home.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Introduced to her classmates and learns the daily routine, </span><span style="font-size: 13px;">which keeps the girls occupied from before dawn until dinner.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 13px;">The superintendent Miss Temple is kind, while one of her </span><span style="font-size: 13px;">teachers Miss Scatcherd is mean in how she treats her friend Helen Burns.</span></li></ul>]]></description>
