In my opinion I believe that Hu has a better life, even thought that Ren is richer, he is not closer to his family. Hu has a good family life and is loved by everyone in his family. 

Hu is not getting as well educated as Ren, however he likes his education and has fun. 

Ren is better educated than Hu, however he doesn't like his tutor, Wang. 

This is why I believe that Hu has a better life than Ren.

Ren is arrogant, shows no respect, not loved by his father and mean.
