Nobody can stop a person from changing their own rightful opinion in a situation like this one.  Thoreau felt that "a poll tax put money into the government in an unfair and unjust way". Based on this evidence , it show that he was against the poll tax for a reason. Poll tax was used to get money from formed free man slaves that had the right to vote.
