We read that she and her father actually had a good relationship with each other and were seemingly close, but the older she got the more the relationship got strained. When she wasn't respected at home or at school, she felt what she needed to do was leave and try to start a new life. Did this work? No, it did not because at the end of the story she reveals that there is nothing to really feel anymore.
