1.)
The product being advertised is a new Hyundai Genesis car. This car plays an important role in American culture because it provides transportation for people in society. It also shows the world the image of the over protective father; which is typical for a teenage girl.

2.)
Not much physical language takes place in the video other than facial expressions and a few statements. This commercial provides an emotional response because it demonstrates the love a father has for his daughter and the distance he's willing to go to protect her. This is showed through Kevin Hart's actions where he follows them around all night even hanging from a helicopter to spy on his daughter. This commercial shows that it provides protection; even enough protection for a "daddy's girl". It shows that this car is safe enough for loved ones to ride in. It even has the car finder feature.

The copywriter uses humor along with affection. It is portrayed through the actor Kevin Hart. He is over protected in a very funny way.

3.)
This commercial reflects cultural attitudes being that in some cultures father's are very protective of their daughters. Kevin Hart plays the part of the over-protective father where he follows them all night with the help of the car finder.

4.)
I used the first media literacy skill. "The ability and willingness to make an effort o understand content, to pay attention and filter out noise." I did this analysis while watching the Super Bowl around other students in the lounge of my residence hall. Therefore I had to filter out noise to focus and analyze the commercial and its' content.

5.)
First Date
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R_483zeVF8

1.) The product being advertised is the new Hyundai Genesis. This commercial shows the stereotypical father/ daughter relationship when the daughter goes on a date with a boy. It shows how protective and crazy dads can get and that they will do just about anything to protect their little girl and to make sure she is okay.

2.) There is very little verbal language during the commercial. A lot of body language and facial expressions are used to show the fear the male has and in Kevin Hart to show his willingness to keep his daughter safe and to scare the male from doing anything. It provides information but at the end it generates an emotional response of humor when Kevin Hart says “Honey, what’d you guys do tonight?” when in reality he knew their every move and was there for each one. It also shows the relationship between ather and daughter and the tense relationship between father and daughter’s boyfriend.

3.) The advertisement is indirectly stereotypical about the teenager boy. The commercial makes him seem like a bad guy and that’s why Kevin Hart is following him. This makes every teenage guy seem like a bad guy which in reality is not true.

4.) I understood the power of a media message, I thought critically about the message and I made an effort to understand the content during my analysis of the Hyundai Genesis commercial

5.) “First Date”

http://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/kevin-harts-hyundai-super-bowl-50-commercial-comedian-stalks-daughter-and-her-date-w163608

1.) The product being advertised are skittles. This commercial shows Steven Tyler having a portrait made of himself with skittles. The portrait starts singing and the skittles crumble from the high pitch singing. American society likes to see famous people that they feel they can relate to.

2.) This commercial plays more to emotion, it does not offer any information. There is not much dialogue, but the skittle portrait sings Dream On by Aerosmith. This is meant to trigger peoples emotions because they recognize the song. The commercial plays on humor, because the singing shatters the skittle portrait.

3.) Steven Tyler was a big influence in rock and roll, so it indirectly reflects cultural attitudes towards rock and roll. At the end of the commercial it says Rock the Rainbow, Taste the Rainbow, showing that skittles are related to Rock and Roll.

4.) I used the ability to think critically about media messages by analyzing the different parts of the commercial. I also used the ability to distinguish emotional from reasoned reactions when responding to content and to act accordingly. I understood that the commercial was more for entertainment, and did not contain informational pieces.

5.) What is the item (product / service) being advertised and what role does it play in American culture and society?
The product being advertised was Doritos. The role that it plays in American culture is it's very popular snack that most people consume with subs or sandwiches.

2.) What about the language used? Does it essentially provide information or does it try to generate some kind of emotional response? Or both?
It generates an emotional response because the woman is pregnant and the husband puts the Doritos in front of the pregnant woman's stomach and the baby begins to chase the Doritos, so it created a emotional response to me because I though it was super funny.

- What techniques are used by the copywriter: humor, alliteration, definitions" of life, comparisons, sexual innuendo, and so on?
The techniques that are used by the copy writer was definitely humor.

3.) What sociological, political, economic or cultural attitudes are indirectly reflected in the advertisement?
The advertisement was about pregnancy, however its main focus was Doritos and that definitely changed the way I viewed it.

1.)What is the item (product / service) being advertised and what role does it play in American culture and society? New 2016 Hyundai, providing new innovations to cars, such as the car finder.

2.) What about the language used? Does it essentially provide information or does it try to generate some kind of emotional response? Or both?
The commercial provides some information about the new addition to the 2016 Hyundai, such as the car finder that’ll be able to track the car wherever it goes.

- What techniques are used by the copywriter: humor, alliteration, definitions" of life, comparisons, sexual innuendo, and so on?
The technique used by the copywriter is humor by including a comedian (Kevin Hart) to play the lead role in the commercial by sending his daughter on a date and activating the car finder to secretly spy on the couple.

3.) What sociological, political, economic or cultural attitudes are indirectly reflected in the advertisement?
The commercial was specifically made to inform individuals about the new feature made to the 2016 Hyundai, but really the commercial was to inform young adults that you can be found anywhere by just activating the car finder and making sure that the couple isn’t going anywhere unsupervised.

Ex. An advertisement may be about a pair of blue jeans but it might, indirectly, reflect such matters as sexism, alienation, stereotyped thinking, conformism, generational conflict, loneliness, elitism, and so on.

4.) Identify what Media Literacy skills you utilized during your analysis...(p. 23-25)
I used the respect for power of messages because even though they’re trying to advertise a new feature made to the car, the producers are also trying to send a message that you’ll feel more safer if the made an advancement such as the car finder to ensure you that you’ll never misplace or lose your car.

What is the item (product / service) being advertised and what role does it play in American culture and society?
The item being advertised is Skittles by Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Steven Tyler is a famous musician and people who know good music know at least a few Aerosmith songs. Using a famous person to advertise products can draw the public in, especially those who are fans of the person.

2.) What about the language used? Does it essentially provide information or does it try to generate some kind of emotional response? Or both?
The commercial uses the chorus line of the song "Dream On" by Aerosmith in a way that provides a humorous response from those that are watching.

- What techniques are used by the copywriter: humor, alliteration, definitions" of life, comparisons, sexual innuendo, and so on?
Humor is used in the commercial by having Steven critique his Skittles painting of himself's singing voice. By making the painting hit a high note, he is able to get the painting to shatter.

3.) What sociological, political, economic or cultural attitudes are indirectly reflected in the advertisement?
The advertisement is about the candy Skittles, but music is reflected by referencing a famous classic rock band and one of it's more popular songs.

4.) What about the language used? However, with the father eating the Doritos during the ultrasound, and the baby following the chips inside of his mothers stomach, they are indirectly saying that the chips taste delicious if the father is eating them during a ultrasound and the baby follows them in the womb

- What techniques are used by the copywriter: humor, alliteration, definitions" of life, comparisons, sexual innuendo, and so on?

The technique used in this commercial would be humor. This Doritos commercial uses humor because when the parents would move the Doritos chip, the baby would follow. What is the item (product / service) being advertised and what role does it play in American culture and society?
The product/service being advertised is the new Honda Ridgeline truck. It plays a role in American society today because a lot of American people own farms(especially in the South), and people can use this truck to transport animals (sheep) based on the commercial.

2.) What about the language used? Does it essentially provide information or does it try to generate some kind of emotional response? Or both?
The commercial used indirect and nonverbal language to give information about the truck. The commercial showed the man using a touchscreen device to change where the music was coming from (the inside to the "truck bed"). Also, it showed how spacious the back or the bed part of the truck was because the man was able to open up a separate compartment inside the bed which held more stuff. The commercial also generates humor because of the sheep singing.

- What techniques are used by the copywriter: humor, alliteration, definitions" of life, comparisons, sexual innuendo, and so on?
They used humor in the commercial by having the sheep singing .

3.) What sociological, political, economic or cultural attitudes are indirectly reflected in the advertisement?
The advertisement indirectly reflected cultural attitudes by having the commercial shot on a farm which indirectly reflected the idea that people on farms drives pick up style trucks...
Ex. What is the item (product / service) being advertised and what role does it play in American culture and society?

The item being advertised was Pokémon and the American culture behind it was that it was celebrating Pokémon’s 20 year mark. As for society, it represents entertainment for young kids. I was surprised to see a Pokémon commercial because it has been many years since I’ve even seen kids playing the card game or hearing about it. This commercial was to remind people/kids how cool it is again and to try and make it popular once again.

2.) what about the language used? Does it essentially provide information or does it try to generate some kind of emotional response? Or both?

What this commercial did was use few words and focused more on a story line. Each clip represented kids pushing themselves to success and achieving their goals by saying the words “I can do that.” This commercial was geared towards emotion which I thought was shown very well. I also enjoyed the intense music in the background because it felt more like a movie instead of a commercial.

- What techniques are used by the copywriter: humor, alliteration, definitions" of life, comparisons, sexual innuendo, and so on?

The commercial used both females and male actors (all different ethnicities) that became determined by watching someone else setting a goal and preforming it. Whether it was running a marathon, winning a game of chess or a football game they did it with passion. I also noticed that the performances were shared/viewed by either a cell phone, television, videos or pictures.

3.) What sociological, political, economic or cultural attitudes are indirectly reflected in the advertisement?

All the actors had different ethnic backgrounds, all had different goals and all preformed their best. Each person looked like they were from a different country too which I thought was pretty powerful. While these actors were preforming people who were observing in the commercial were taking pictures and sharing it on to either friends or the World Wide Web.

4.) Identify what Media Literacy skills you utilized during your analysis...(p. 23-25)

The one I used immediately was “the ability to think critically about the message.” The commercial showed a story before sharing the actual item they wanted to broadcast which made me more interested and think about what was happening and why. The role this service announcement plays in american society is letting Americans know they could help others around the world by just not leaving there faucet on while brushing their teeth.

2.)

1.) What is the item (product / service) being advertised and what role does it play in American culture and society?
The item being advertised was the Doritos nacho chips, and it shows that as Americans we are very fond of chips and other unhealthy eating habits.

2.) What about the language used? Does it essentially provide information or does it try to generate some kind of emotional response? Or both? - What techniques are used by the copywriter: humor, alliteration, definitions" of life, comparisons, sexual innuendo, and so on?
The advertisement uses humor to show that the Doritos as a product are so good it can even attract the most unexpected consumer, and in this case it was a baby inside the womb who craved the chips so much that it flew out of the womb to catch the tossed chip.

3.) What sociological, political, economic or cultural attitudes are indirectly reflected in the advertisement? Ex. An advertisement may be about a pair of blue jeans but it might, indirectly, reflect such matters as sexism, alienation, stereotyped thinking, conformism, generational conflict, loneliness, elitism, and so on.
I think that one of the main indirect attitudes that was reflected was that obesity is becoming way too common because of the unhealthy eating habits of our country. It starts with the parents living through these unhealthy habits in front of their children and the children following after their main role models.

4.) Identify what Media Literacy skills you utilized during your analysis...(p. 23-25)
The media literacy skill i utilized was the understanding and respect for the power of media messages, solely for the reason that people are going to take away from the commercial that they should buy more chips, and this seems to just lead more people into unhealthy eating habits. Obesity is a problem that can arise very quickly if unhealthy eating habits aren't fixed or prevented early on.
5.)
