The Armenian Genocide was seen in the eyes of the Ottoman Empire as defending there country from traitors, because of there such strong loyalty. The Ottoman rulers, like most of their subjects, were Muslim. Christian had no rights , were not protected and paid higher taxes. 
Over 1.5 millions Armenians died. They were starved, beat, raped, hanged, and  enslaved.
