That battle was a turning point in World War II. Because of it, Japan lost many of its best naval pilots, and first-line air carriers. Other than that, as the years went on facilities on the island began shutting down, and in 1993 all military operations there were stopped.

There's two main Islands green or east, and sand. The weather is subtropical with wet winters and dry summers. Midway Islands was originally called Midbrooks, then brookes and finally Midway Islands when the U.S annexed the Islands in 1867. After the Battle Of Midway it remained a Naval base during the Cold War. This base was shut down in 1993. In 1996 Midway Islands became a Wildlife Refuge.
