In both of my sources, it is obvious that a large part of the French Revolution is the fact that high taxes influenced the peasants and the lowest estate to rebel against the government. The lower estate, which included everyone that wasn't nobility or clergy were burdened with over 80% of the taxes. In "La Defecit", the financial minister that was newly appointed is seen at the front asking where the money is and nobles and clergy are seen sneaking out the door. This political cartoon basically implies that they- the nobles and clergy - are robbing people of their tax money. This is supported by Source 5, where you can see that most of the tax money was not put towards the peasants, instead it was put to foreign affairs and the kings brother .The peasants were paying most of the taxes and getting nothing out of it. In "La Taille and Corvee" it shows the relationship between the 3 estates, the 2 higher estates are pictured above the rock that has the words Taille and Corvee engraved in it. Taille was a land tax imposed on the lower class and Corvee is the federal dues. The man on the ground is part of the lower estate and being crushed and burdened by the unfair taxation.

People had no say, in source #1, the minister for justice to King Louis XVI, Chretien- Francois de Lamoignon, states how the king has absolute, sovereign power that God gives him. This means the king makes decisions by himself if he wanted to, even if they were irrational. In the document, we see how the king was able to do what he wanted without anybody in their way, "he alone must judge whether such a convocation is useful or necessary" and "he needs no special powers to administer his kingdom". The Third Estate was sick of their lack of representation and how they had no say in subjects that directly affected them. They were being taxed extremely heavily, without representation, while the people who could pay, the First and Third Estate, payed an extremely small amount. This sparked a flame in The Third Estate that could not be brought down.

Source 8 provides the many grievances of third estate, as stated by the cahiers. The third estate especially emphasized the need for votes in the assembly, which the king did not provide. The third estate also needed political change due to the fact that they were too often excluded from taking on positions and ranks that would be guaranteed to a noble from birth. Because the third estate pushed for individual liberties, they demanded that the king would stop imprisoning citizens left and right. In addition, the king did not provide the people with many liberties , such as freedom of religion.

My source is Louis XVI's personal account book. This book was ordered to be examined and published to show everyone how the French royal spending. This showed that the most of the finances went to foreign affairs and postal costs. The second greatest amount went to the king's brothers. In contrast, charity and pensions/salaries got the least amount of finances. This shows how unjust the king would distribute the money. He only gave the money to things that would benefit the first and second estate. Louis did not do anything financial wise to help the third estate. The king had all political control and the third estate could not fight back about this. They couldn't get a higher position to represent themselves and change the inequality.

King Louis XVI had to flee for his safety towards the end of the Revolution. He left M. de Vergennes in his place to run France. The king also made many decisions that led to the economic instability of France. He used his power to make himself and the nobles happy. This angered the lower classes. Nobody wants a king who can't make proper decisions and runs away in times of distress. Louis's abuse of his political power was a huge influence in the French Revolution.

He explain how the country was troubled greatly by their finances. Most of the money was used to pay for the expenses of the American War of Independence. A immense amount of money was also used for the first and second estates so that they could keep their extravagant life styles. This cost the state over twelve hundred million livre and drowned them in dept.

Source 4 describes the criticism of the French government with its people. In the document written by Montesquieu, he speaks of the way that France is being ruled by a king who "loves to gratify those that serve him." He saw the French king as a man who favored those who accepted and did what he said rather than those who opposed his views. His choices were made more for himself and his supporters rather than for everyone in the country. Ruling the country of France in a less beneficial way for everyone.

the sixth source tells of a towns hopes and demands for changes a majority of which call for the abolition of several taxes such as the taxes corn and grain and tolls for goods crossing bridges and roads, they also ask that free education of the young be set up in each parish in the country , and that means be provided to feed and house the poor. All of these sought to lessen the financial stress on the people of the third estate. other than the lessening the financial burden they also asked that they be given the right to fair trial and that arbitrary imprisonment be forbidden. It should be taken into account that these were not demands but what the people of this town where trying to encourage happen
