Hannie was a Jew who dropped out of collage. She dropped out because she refused to sign a place to the Germans. Therefore later she joined Truus and Freddie in fighting against the war. She shot with the two girls and they became best friends.

After the war the, the sister dealt with a great deal of trauma. Truus copped by making sculptures before she died. She also wrote about the resistance that she did. Freddie copped by having children and getting married. A great deal of this trauma was also because of the loss of their best friend Hannie.
