Winston talks about how the Party is very controlling. Winston mentions how whatever the Party says to the citizens on the telescreens is believed by the citizens. He says that the people easily listen to whatever the Party says as well as Big Brother. Winston mentions how everything that the Party talks about is lies and that the citizens listen to the Party as if everything they say are facts. The Party talks about how much better their world is current compared to the past, but the infomation ends up being lies the entire time. 
Later on, Winston talks about how there were three men that were brain washed into claiming the crimes that they did not commit. Since the three men were brain washed into saying the committed the crime, Winston knew that the Thought Police were not going to let the three men go without any consequences.
