This week, the amazing story of the Robertson family and how they survived a month lost at sea in the (1) pacific Ocean.</p><p><br></p><p>In 1970, Dougal and Lyn Robertson and their four children were living on a (2) farm in northern England.</p><p><br>One ordinary day, Neil, one of their ten-year-old twins, said he wanted to leave the farm and sail around the world. Most families would probably laugh and say “don’t be silly,” but the Robertsons saw the chance for an (3)...</p><p><br>They sold their business, bought a boat and, on (4)1971, started their journey across the Atlantic.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>C:</strong> Matt, what do you think of their decision?</p><p><br></p><p><strong>M:</strong> (5) ... . I mean, Dougal was an experienced (6) ..., but it was still a brave decision. Maybe not very sensible, but definitely brave!</p><p><br></p><p><strong>C:</strong> Ha ha, yes. Well, sensible or not, the Robertsons made it across the Atlantic safely in their 13-meter boat, <em>The Lucette</em>. But on June 15th, (7)1972, while they were sailing out into the Pacific Ocean, things started to go very wrong.</p><p><br></p><p>Their boat was passing the Galapagos Islands when they noticed something large in the water behind them. It was a group of killer (8) whales swimming toward the boat. Dougal, the (9) ... son, has said that when he saw the whales, he thought they were going to kill and eat the family.</p><p><br>Well, the whales hit and (10) ... their boat, but amazingly, the Robertsons all made it onto their small life raft, scared, but alive.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>C:</strong> I mean, they were very unlucky, weren’t they, Matt?</p><p><br></p><p><strong>M:</strong> Yes, they were. On average, there are only two to three (11) acidents with boats and whales per year. But believe it or not, it wasn’t all bad. I mean, first, the whales didn’t eat them!</p><p><br></p><p><strong>C:</strong> Ha! That’s true.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>M:</strong> And the life raft and another very small wooden boat (12) ... the accident. And luckily they were carrying some water, some dry bread, cookies, a bag of onions, and some fruit in the life raft.</p><p><br></p><p><br><strong>C:</strong> Yes, but after six days, all the food was gone, so they collected rainwater to drink, and killed (13) ... and ate the meat and drank the blood.</p><p><br></p><p>Then, 17 days after the accident, their life raft failed and they had to move to their wooden boat. It was called <em>The Ednamair</em> and was only three meters long. Can you (14) ... the whole family in that small boat?</p><p><br></p><p><strong>M:</strong> It sounds like an (15) ... situation. You have to be strong and stay positive to survive something like this. There was only one dry seat in the boat, so most of the time they were sitting in water. But they didn’t (16) ...  hope.</p><p><br><strong>C:</strong> And finally, 38 days after the accident, a Japanese (17) fishing boat found them and took them to dry land and safety.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>M:</strong> It’s an incredible story of (18) amazing adventure</p><p><br></p><p><strong>C:</strong> Yes, it is. And now, Douglas Robertson works as an (19) in London, and amazingly, he has said that he (20) enjoyed the family’s adventure!</p>]]></description>
