Le 17 avril marquant la journée internationale des luttes paysannes – et l’assemblée générale d’Uniterre le matin – et face aux tensions grandissantes au sein du monde paysan, le tout nouveau Festival Paysan ambitionne de (re)créer des liens entre agriculture et société civile. Fruit d’une synergie entre différents mouvements, cet évènement inédit vise notamment à aborder, ensemble, les défis et les solutions du monde paysan contemporain. L'ONU ayant consacré 2026 Année internationale des agricultrices, le rôle essentiel des femmes dans l’agriculture et les dynamiques de genre en œuvre dans la production de notre alimentation seront mis en lumière lors de cette 1ère édition.

état des droits et mise en oeuvre de la Déclaration de l'ONU sur les Droits des paysan·nes. Avec Geneviève Savigny, du Conseil des Droits Humains de l'ONU et un exemple de mise en oeuvre par un Etat : la Colombie, avec Céline Zoppello et Danièle Coll-Figueras, de retour de Colombie.

16h-17h30 : Table ronde "Paysanneries contre multinationales, quel rapport de forces?"

“Amidst Crisis and War: We Call for Sustaining the Soil; Securing the Sector; Defending Peasant Rights & Local Industry for Food Sovereignty”

Here in the Philippines, peasants and indigenous communities continue to defend their rights despite laws that promise reform but rarely deliver. Our food systems are increasingly captured by corporations and foreign markets, leaving farmers, fisherfolk, and ordinary families vulnerable to every oil shock, fertilizer hike, and global conflict.

The current crises — wars abroad, rising prices at home, and worsening hunger — show how fragile our food sovereignty is when dictated by neoliberal and neocolonial policies. But they also remind us of the power of collective resistance.

This year, the Food Sovereignty Campaign in the Philippines joins the global call to resist land grabbing, criminalization of peasant leaders, and the unchecked expansion of agribusiness. Together, we push for food sovereignty and agroecology as the path forward.

This gathering is targeting the participation of 90-100 peasant leaders, key advocates, community leaders, campaign coordinators, and allies in the food sovereignty campaign.

The forum provides a space to shed a spotlight with past and current struggles faced by the peasant sector in the country and other rural workers, and building solidarity with other sectors and stakeholders for the promotion, protection and championing of peasant and land rights in the country. We demand!:

Protect the Protectors — Stop the Criminalization of Peasant Leaders!

Implement UNDROP Now — Defend Farmers, IPs, and Rural Women!

Jail the Smugglers — End Agricultural Liberalization!

Support Local Production — Strengthen Food Sovereignty!

End Imperialist Wars and Interventions — Secure Peace for Peoples!

The program was opened by our Campaign Secretariat and featured discussions on UNDROP (FOCUS); Agrarian Reform Struggles (KATARUNGAN); Changing Peasant Landscape (UMMANE); Land Rights Defenders and the International Peasant Situation (FOCUS); Industry Insights (SINAG); and Local Peasant Struggles and the Food Sovereignty Campaign (PKMM). This was followed by a lively Panel Q&A with our speakers, where they mainly addressed questions from the youth about the challenges in advancing advocacy for farmers and agriculture.

This was consolidated through a Call to Action led by PKMM, which was responded to with Messages of Solidarity from: LILAK; UP Diliman College of Social Work and Community Development; Oceana Philippines; LUPA; PALLAG; and PANGISDA, who also shared our Unity Statement for the International Day of Peasant Struggles and the continuation of our Food Sovereignty Campaign.

KILUSAN closed the forum, followed by a short mobilization outside CTK and a statement from PKMM.”
