Since we are working on word problems me and my class decided to ask ChatTGPT to generate a word problem for us. My kids thought it was so funny and crazy that it did that!!!!!

Students learned:

Not to make friends online

Don't share any personal information online

Don't meet someone in person you met online

Don't talk to people you don't know

People aren't always who they say they are

Log off or close down the page if you feel uncomfortable

Always ask an adult if you are unsure

One thing I learned as an adult, is to always Log Out so I don't have my own little 'chicks' click on something that they should not get into.

Our biggest takeaways from our book and discussion:

• do not share personal information online

• do not meet up with random people from the internet

• ask an adult before making certain decisions online

• do not post personal pictures of ourselves

• not everyone is who they say they are on the internet

I even shared a personal experience about selling things on Facebook Marketplace! I told them that when I sell things to people, I either meet up with them in a public place or I have Mr. Stringer there with me. They loved hearing about how I also choose to stay safe on the internet!

Three things that we learned or took away from the story was

• Do not buy things from online without parents permission.

• Do not meet up with random strangers from the internet.

• Do not share personal information with people on the internet.

We also tied this into morning meeting discussion over technology and how to use it.

I loved chatting with my team today about all our similarities (Worman, Eckhardt, and I are all 2W3, and Flannigan is 2W1)! We are stereotypical teachers, for sure! Love this! Come share with me or comment your enneagram because I LOVE IT!

It was interesting to see how similar we are. This also goes with our Strength Finder we did at the beginning of the school year.

I am thankful to teach with each of you ladies. You all are such an essential piece to our first-grade puzzle. I'm blessed to teach and learn alongside you all.

Flannigan - thanks for embracing your last BOOsprise. It was fun to set up, not just for myself but for the other spooktacular helpers.

I tasked them today with writing as many words as they could think of that have certain word endings. I gave them three minutes, and it gave me a quick insight into who might need more help with this during workshop time and who already understands it pretty well!

I love each and every opportunity I get to work with them:

-Planning with Kendall is always a blast she puts up with my crazy ideas and makes Math FUN

-Working with Haley to find new ways to make my classroom more inclusive is something I am always so grateful for

-Partnering with Stringer to learn more about 1st grade Math to help improve my LEAP groups has been super encouraging

-Getting a big picture perspective from Nicole allows me a new lens to view my room from

I told them to post about one cool thing or new thing they've learned recently (as a little learning reflection) and then comment on at least two other friends' posts with a praise or question! They did a really great job, and a lot of them made me crack up! They're so sweet and encouraging to each other, and first graders are just so funny and simple with their comments (ex. "wow").

I asked Krissy what she does for her "needier" students who aren't meeting with her, and she gave me some tips on teaching them independence! Krissy uses really awesome file folders at her table that have short and long vowel sounds, blends, digraphs, and the alphabet! It was a great tool to be able to whip out to help students with their writing! I also noted her relaxing music and use of privacy folders during writing time - I never thought to use folders to encourage independent work during writers workshop! Her students were rocking writing time today and even earned a purple link from me!! Go Krissy!!

We posted about something we learned this week, then got to leave comments and questions for each other. I went over the rules and made sure we were posting constructive questions or kind comments/emojis. They loved it!! Everyone was very nice and a few even asked solid questions or agreed about enjoying the same lesson. They loved seeing each other's comments on their posts, too. We even had a few parents comment, which made them feel very special. Definitely a fun way to communicate.

I've never "skipped" a whole group mini-lesson to do stations for the whole math workshop (while pulling small groups to teach them the lesson), but we decided for these harder concepts specifically, that might be best for us! I'll try that method next week when we start subtraction word problems!

The other takeaway I got from Rachael was the idea to have them orally rehearse word problems with a shoulder partner instead of writing it down. Having them write down word problems EACH day doesn't seem fair to the kiddos who get stressed out spelling words or the kiddos who take a really long time writing. The district snapshot lets the kids dictate their word problems while we write it for them, so I'm going to start doing that during lessons, too!

We might try a fun one next time! :)

It was interesting to talk about their misconception that if you delete something its gone forever, and I needed to remind them just because it may be deleted on their device it is impossible to completely delete anything posted on a digital platform.

After the read aloud I had them complete the Seesaw link above in partnerships, and they shared their responses.

This has been been able to help me gauge students understanding after a mini lesson or review

Dawn deserves ALL of the sparkles! This is a throwback to my first year of teaching, and if you didn't know she was my MENTOR teacher when I student taught at Tadlock as well. She works SO incredibly hard and always puts kids first. I am blessed every day to be on her team. Also, I have NO clue how she teaches all in 5th grade, but she is an MVP. I love you, Dawn!

Rachael and I have been working through a coaching cycle around small groups. I have been learning how to use these resources in my small groups and I love that they read, we have deep conversations, and then we work on our writing about our reading. This will help my students be more concise in their answers and practice supporting their claim with evidence.

My LEAP group has been working on multiplying whole numbers and decimals. Today we wrapped up our lesson with a collaborative 3 reads word problem. After each read students shared what they wrote and/or drew to represent the problem. Using three reads is very powerful because it helps students slow down and truly understand what the question is asking you to find. The Math toolbox has a template where you can plug in any problem at the top and has a breakdown of each read! Very helpful!

This was an amazing training I was able to attend! We learned about behavior management, tracking behavior, and implementing strategies to use in the classroom.

I used ChatGPT to help write two step multiplication and division problems for our review this week! It was awesome!

When reading the article and examples I was inspired to do a task related to math. When we switch classes Minor and I typically take the chance for each of us to go to the restroom. While she watched my class I tasked students with drawing a multiplication problem. I loved seeing the variety in drawings and equations! I think I will try more tasks like these before my mini lessons.

In social studies we are talking about different cultural celebrations. Student did a hand up, stand up, pair up to share a cultural celebration they celebrate with their family. They had so much fun sharing about their special traditions.

Coach Model

This year, I have been working with my students on setting a goal for dyslexia class. I gave them a few goals to choose from. A couple have very specific goals to them. Each student had a planning sheet to help them think thru how they will reach their goal that included:

1. action steps needed to reach the goal

2. what could get in the way of reaching the goal

3. How they will solve what gets in the way and push thru to accomplish it

4. Why is this goal important?

Then we check their progress every 6 -9 weeks. These chart attached were given away at the end of last school year (I think) have come in handy. Not all students need one, but it a great quick goal check page.

Guess what? We were both a 9, THE PEACEMAKER. Both of us are identical twins. We discussed by sheer nature that we have learned how to be supportive and get along with others from the womb. We do not like conflict, but will stand up for others and our beliefs if we feel that it will make a difference. I also learned that 9s are spiritual seekers. She and I have a lot of discussions about how our lives are shaped by our spiritual beliefs. I call her my work twin, but more importantly, a good friend.

Auditory - syllable type chants or T call's out the sound and S listen to the sound and write the letter for that sound

Any combo of VATK is more likely to be stored in their dyslexic brain.
