Prediction (pre-election)

We are predicting Dana Rohrbacher will win the 2018 Midterm elections. The New York Times states in their polls that there is 45% for Rouda, 45% for Rohrbacher, and 10% undecided. With this poll in mind, we decided to predict Rohrbacher would win not only because he is the incumbent, but also because the California 48th is a mainly Republican part of the state. We believe that Rohrbacher will also win the election because he has been in the House since 1989, showing that he has a lot more experience than Rouda. Even though Rohrbacher’s views on cooperation with Russia are opinionated and have shown to hurt candidates in past election, this part of the state is actually fond of his ideals especially with Trump in office. Also with Orange County being one of the wealthiest parts of the country, Rohrbacher’s republican views will help the majority of the population. Our prediction reflects the evidence because even with a close-race, Rohrbacher will win the race because of his experience and connection to California 48th.

Why did he win?
- California is a democrat heavy state. Nearly every presidential election, the democrats have taken the electoral votes of the state of California. After the recent presidential election, Hilary Clinton was carried in this area. Though they are mainly Republican, the fact Hilary won this district shown a pre-read that the HoR results to be Democratic as well. Rohrbacher was losing favorability in the district as his time in office continued. This area has always generated HoR that are republican, but with recent controversy, the district looked for a switch of the party.

Rohrbacher would emphasize the importance of the Republican beliefs being embellished in this community of Orange County. He would speak on behalf of the fact he has been the incumbent, as well as that the area seems to be thriving. Rouda emphasized the importance of the democratic beliefs in this district, which is apart of a democratic heavy state. Rohrbacher would constantly speak about how we should have a relationship with Russia and follow some of their political beliefs. Rouda would commonly speak about the importance of public health care and abortion rights.
