If you are ready to leave father and mother, and brother and sister, and wife and child and friends, and never see them again—if you have paid your debts, and made your will, and settled all your affairs, and are a free man—then you are ready for a walk” (Thoreau 3).

The quote highlights an individualistic lifestyle that can be taken up by the act of walking, as shown by the image of two figures separating by the choice of one to walk away in order to advance one step closer to a transcendental lifestyle.

"Neither does the wisest man extort her secret, and lose his curiosity by finding out all her perfection. Nature never became a toy to a wise spirit. The flowers, the animals, the mountains, reflected the wisdom of his best hour, as much as they had delighted the simplicity of his childhood. When we speak of nature in this manner, we have a distinct but most poetical sense in the mind" (Emerson 2).

The image portrays a man who attempts to resolve the issue regarding his computer and gives up; this same mindset but further simplified of not even attempting to solve the mystery behind nature must be utilized if one wants to fully transcend into its beauty.

"This seems partly owing to the eye itself. The eye is the best of artists. By the mutual action of its structure and of the laws of light, perspective is produced, which integrates every mass of objects, of what character soever, into a well colored and shaded globe, so that where the particular objects are mean and unaffecting, the landscape which they compose, is round and symmetrical. And as the eye is the best composer, so light is the first of painters" (Emerson 2).

The image juxtaposes an artist's and normal human's intricate detailing on colors, with the artists going more in depth, connecting to the quote's central idea that artists are able to understand true beauty and fully transcend in it due to their intuition which towers over reason.

Whitman's poem, "O Me! O Life!", caught my attention as it embodies the question that a majority of society implores on daily, why are we here? The syntax that Whitman utilizes to portray the running thoughts of his mind relate to my own feelings as I can never find a clear answer to my purpose in this world, just as he was searching for. However, Whitman is able to answer his question of purpose of existence which is to feel gratitude towards the fact that you are alive and are able to experience this. This answer is portrayed through the film Dead Poets' Society which also captivated me due to as Mr. Keating, who continuously encouraged his students to live life and to seize the day, even if they did not know what was to come. The poem and film are respected for their purpose and optimistic ideals, which I myself want to take up.

From an early age I always assumed that my verse upon the world would be to help others in some aspect of life, whether that be regarding health, a situation, or education. As I matured and embarked on my strengths, I discovered that my verse would be to assist others medically. Furthermore, with extensive research, I determined that I would specifically support the medical health of children as a pediatric oncologist. The verse of oncology was highlighted upon my path by the passing of my grandmother due to cancer, which greatly affected me as I never was able to speak with her due to a linguistic barrier, inspiring me to prevent this from happening to any other families. By becoming a pediatric oncologist, I will be able to be one more roadblock in the destructive path of cancer, recessing the child back to their normal life. Additionally, by preventing the attack of the disease I will be saving many parents and families from severe heartbreak with the loss of the child. This verse will not only make my younger self proud, but my late grandmother whom I have always desired to find a path to reconnect with.

Thesis: The spiritual movement of transcendentalism works to enlighten people on how to model themselves after nature through the resuscitation of the connection between man and nature and a life of simplicity, creating an escape for people to sequester themselves from society, in order to ultimately become self-reliant individuals who return to society by extensively and emphatically contributing to it.

Insight quotes:
1. The flowers educate man to live life with pleasure and to find joy in all aspects of life, the animals encourage man to stay courageous or to be stealthy in various situations, and the mountains teach man to stand firm in his beliefs and to not waver to conformity. These lessons were never fully engraved in man’s mind by normal teachers, until nature took upon this role to truly enlighten individuals on the path of transcendental knowledge.

2. Emerson sheds light on the key to achieving individualistic thought, which is to have faith in one’s own ideas and its effects on the surrounding society. By harboring this confidence, one is able to grow individually and strengthen their self-reliance, as they voice their opinions and contribute to society more effectively than before.

3. Emerson represents his desire of abandoning society which tears apart the tenets of transcendentalism, especially attacking individuals who rely on their own thoughts, rather than the conformed idea of society. If all in society were to turn to nature, which the voices of solitude can be sourced to, in order to transform into a state of self-reliance which enables the denial of the destructiveness of a conformed society.

Image connection: The image portrays the complexity of nature and all it provides to society as a teacher who works to procure individuals that extremely self-reliant, enabling them to enact on their own verses and even contributing these back to society.
