The concept of transmission in music, is about the raw emotions the artist puts into their song rather than focusing on the beat the artist is more focused portraying their emotions. Every now and then we all hear a certain song that we pertain to, because of the emotions that are put into it and how we interpret them sometimes from our own experiences. I agree with Ratliff’s argument that it is an important musical element across all music genres. Everybody listens to different types of music, but everybody can tell just how much was put into the song emotionally. Ratliff used the song Julia by The Beatles as an example, because throughout the song you only pay attention to John Lennon and the emotions he’s trying to portray of Julia and his love for her. He focused on his emotions more, than the instrumental itself. It doesn’t always have to be a love song that gives transmission it’s best meaning. An example outside of Ratliff’s playlist that stuck with is Jocelyn Flores by XXXTentacion. Most people know who he is, and the music he makes, with Jocelyn Flores he tells a story of his friend Jocelyn who committed suicide and how it affected him and the memories that came with it from his past. If you listen closely and look the lyrics you can hear the emotions throughout the chorus. Transmission is interpreted based on the song the listener chooses, how the artist portrays his emotions, and the meaning of the song.
