         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Using AI and the challenge for Academic Support </strong>&nbsp;</div><div>The best way to appreciate AI is to engage with it. In this workshop, we’ll each create a simple brief and use an AI text and image generating app to respond to it. We will then reflect on how such AI use might impact students’ learning and what this might mean for Academic Support.&nbsp;</div><div>Please bring a portable device, preferably a laptop, in order to participate in the exercise.&nbsp;</div><div>Please engage in the pre-reading activity if possible.&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Pre-reading activity:</strong>&nbsp;</div><div>There is a valuable QAA briefing paper on the use of AI in HE which is available to read <a href="https://www.qaa.ac.uk/docs/qaa/members/maintaining-quality-and-standards-in-the-chatgpt-era.pdf">here.</a>&nbsp;</div><div>And/ or read this summary of the article made using Chat GPT:&nbsp;</div><div>The article provides advice from the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) on managing the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in higher education. The QAA emphasizes the need for institutions to develop policies to support digital AI literacy, ensure equity and accessibility for students, adapt assessment approaches, and address the short-term impact on awards and progression. The article suggests that institutions should be agile in response to evolving AI technology and develop clear policies for the use of AI tools, while also engaging and empowering both students and staff. It further discusses the importance of managing assessments for current students and planning for the next academic session, including developing digital and critical AI literacy among students and addressing issues of equality, accessibility, and support for international students. The article concludes by emphasizing the need for a collective effort in developing AI literacy among the entire academic community.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
