Was able to speak with people as well as read their experiences in which they wrote about. Not only did it help me gain more knowledge on how to successfully communicate others in a more effective way but it also opened my eyes to new experiences that people have.

I was able to collaborate with my piers on different writing pieces. This is super important for me because I had never worked with people before and this kinda forced me get out of my comfort zone and have people criticize and add ideas to my work.

Creative writing workshop class

I took a creative writing class my last semester of my freshman year. At that point I was already in the process of changing my major to Creative writing and this class really helped me open up more. I was writing pieces every week that were being workshopped by my piers. This helped me learn how to take criticism on my work and be able to workshop because of that criticism. I also learned how to not be so anal about my work, before I was very focussed on making a complete linear piece of work and if it wasn't that I wasn't happy whereas towards the end I was making chunks of poetry and smashing them together and it made my work so much better

Creativity is something that I've always valued within myself and I feel that it is one of the most important skills that I have. Ever since I was little my creativity has always been super wild and had always came into everything that I've ever done.

Active listening

Active listening is something that I had to learn because I definitely didn't have it. Preparing to listen, observing what verbal and non-verbal messages are being sent by the person talking, and then providing appropriate feedback for the sake of showing attentiveness to the message being presented.

Attention to detail

As a creative writing major I have to have attention to detail and it's something that I've learned throughout trial and error in my own writing. I think that it is very important especially in my own writing to to pay attention to the little details or else the grand theme of things won't make sense.

Verbal communication

Being able to talk in person to people is something I defiantly had to learn. I have a lot of social anxiety so communicating verbally isn't always my strong suit but I was able to work with a lot of people who helped me feel comfortable and confident in my communication ability.

Written Communication

Written communication is something that I am the most comfortable with, wether that be emails or creative writing assignments. I feel like the pieces that I write are some of the best communication tools that I have.

Interpersonal communication

This is a type of communication that had really helped me in creative workshops. It's important of me to be able to bounce ideas off of other people in a creative setting. The constructive criticism really helps me mold my pieces.

Small town

I grew up in a small conservative town which I feel like really has molded to me into the person that I am. As a Lesbian growing up in this sort of setting I was subject to a lot of homophobia. While this was hard it definitely has a place in my passion for writing and discovering my sense of self.

Lack of representation

As I said I grew up in a small town so representation of LGBTQ folks were non existent and because of this I thought there was something seriously wrong with me when I was little. This is one of the biggest motivations for me while I write. My main goal is for people to not feel so alone and scared like I did and let them know that this state of being is normal.

I'm a Lesbian! I feel like this is something that I really should mention because it's a huge part of me and becoming proud of this is so important and huge for me. Because I am a lesbian my writing really reflects it.

Constructive writing workshops

Due to the amount of creative writing classes that I've taken over the past two and a half years I have been able to participate and lead in discussions directed towards bettering others as well as my own writing and I believe that I have been able o polish my skills in this field

Lifting skills (personal fitness)

OK SO, personal fitness may not be something that everyone puts down on their skill map for English. Not only is it one of my favorite hobbies but it is also a skill that I've learned over the past six years. It requires a lot of discipline and focus which I believe helps me over into my creative writing discipline.
