Most of the food were distributed to the Japanese to help the their soldiers to conquer other parts of Asia. Therefore, ration cards were given out to the households to limit their intake of supplies from the Japanese. This results in very long queues when the people collects their food. Sometimes the supplies were insufficient, therefore some people may not receive the goods. Even if they have spend a very long time to queue for the supplies.Teenagers were restricted from listening to foreign radio channels. The movies in cinemas and the radio station broadcasting in Singapore was played in Japanese. Most of the films featured in the cinema  was about the Japanese winning the war. They would also show propaganda films to influence Singaporeans to work with the Japanese. While those caught listening to foreign radio stations were severely punished.
