The Good and the Challenging

PreK teachers started the day with frustration over the organization of the day. They weren't sure where to go and where to start. Although they had access to this information through the Bridge, they still weren't sure how and where to be at what time. Some also got the info from their principals, others didn't. It was difficult to find the rooms. It took about 20 minutes to get to the content of the first workshop due to the frustration and people coming in to the 1st workshop late. 8am start time was hard for many. I wonder if they needed more signage to support the directions.

The content of our workshops went well. One teaching team mentioned that they had been in Responsive Classroom training the past 2 days and this 45 minute workshop was much more helpful for them.

Although we are on Schoology, the workshop was enhanced by gaining voices of the participants through discussions and inquiry. The range of choices was wide. Perhaps too wide? We had about 6 people in the first workshop, 4 in the second and 12 in the third.

Could future trainings be more than 45 minutes? Maybe 60?

Mandatory FAST trainings were overloaded.

The MLL training seemed disconnected from PreK.

Technology support was timely and very helpful.

I appreciate the time to develop this PD. That helped us be successful.
-klz-

Transitions

I felt that participants left our PD with a different perspective of the meaning of transitions. Some came in with the idea that they were going to leave with different ideas and strategies on how to conduct transitions in their classrooms. However, I think that they left thinking of how transitions can and will effect children and even adults. It goes beyond those repetitive rituals and routines.
It was great that we were able to have these conversations with PreK and kindergarten teachers, however, I did wish that some 1st and 2nd grade teachers would have attended as well. I think that most upper grade teachers impression of transitions are that it is for the early learners to only learn.

A question that I have is, did any of the staff at Washington know that a PD was being held there and that the classrooms were being used? The classroom we were in was not clean and the classroom teacher came in hoping to work in his classroom.
-NX

The teachers were very understanding of our limited time available. I felt like the conversation was short but rich and reflective. Over all the experience was good. I wish we had half a dry to cover this topic since it affects our students and their achievements. I believe that proving a map of Washington with a presenters list and their location. Also being able to have more free slots for teacher chose a course.

BOTK

I didn't have any participants for my first session. I feel this had to do with participants being confused about where they were supposed to be.
Many PreK teachers came down my hall and thought that there were only 3 PreK sessions. I told them that there were other PreK sessions dispersed around the building. Maybe a map of the building would help. For sure having all PreK sessions together would be helpful.
2nd SessionI had 3 participants. The discussion was good. They saw value in the BOTK website and it's resources. They talked about sharing the information with the HS in their building. This is exactly the type of reaction I want..... People hearing about BOTK and what we do and then feeling empowered to share the information with others they feel need it!!
