Ronnie a troubled high school student who was arrested for shop lifting. Her two parents split and she grew away from both of them. She stopped playing the piano, which she is very talented at when her father left to go back to his home town. Ronnie's mother sent her and her brother to live with their father for a summer. Her brother was very excited but she thought her parents hated her. When Ronnie gets to her dads she goes to the beach and meets a guy named Will who is a well known volleyball player. She also met Blaze while she was cleaning soda off her shirt. Blaze's parents were also divorced. Ronnie quickly learns that there is a nest of sea turtles, a species that is endangered. Will volunteers at the local aquarium so he helped her. She stayed outside the nest all night making sure that no raccoons would eat them. Later in the novel Ronnie discovers that her father has cancer. She then had to decide how she was gonna help him and continue to live like she was loved.

The rickety rides were part of a traveling carnival, and the parking lot was lined with overpriced game booths and greasy food concessions. The whole place was kind of…gross.”
Page 108 line 8:
“And so, of course, did the blinding sun. Judging by the fact that she’d been waking up with the farmers since she’d arrived, she figured today was no different. It probably wasn’t even seven yet. The sun was hanging low over the ocean, and a few people were walking their jogs or jogging near the water’s edge. No doubt they’d slept in beds.”
