This information is HIGHLY important because this is the first moment in the story that we find out Sam has OCD after seeing her have an episode. It is also show us how and who the 8's are automatically in the beginning of the story, which also kind of shows us why Sam wants to keep her OCD a secret. And finally what I think is very important is that it shows us Sam's own mindset, how she views people and how the "perfect person" is suppose to be. This is important because this is when Samantha Discovers Caroline and The Poet's Corner, which is a huge turning point to who "School" Samantha is, the corner makes her feel like she is safe and like she is at home which is a sensation she only ever feels when she is at the pool; it made her feel a sense of ease. To me this quote is important because it technically reveals two characters; what I mean by that is not only does it explain and show us who Andrew is and why he resents Sam and does not really feel comfortable with Sam being in poets corner, but also who Sam and the 8's were AKA the typical popular bullies. This quote right here to makes the whole story because it's the major and final turning point. It is important because it is the reveling of the new Sam, the Sam that was created through poets corner; the brave and courage's Sam. So basically in the quote Sam is talking about how there is a pain of letting "them" go, the them in this case meaning not only the 8's but Caroline as well. Let me back track a little, a little while before this quote we discover that the person who supposedly reveled poets corner to Sam (Caroline) is not alive and has never actually ever really met Sam. Caroline was a hallucination that basically was everything that she needed, but all the work that Caroline was doing was actually all of her own work and courage. "Losing" Caroline was hard for Sam because not only did it mean her OCD was getting worse instead of better, but she also lost a big part of who made her who she is.The quote imply's that she has accepted the fate of her friend and is letting all of the pain go away because in the end, as much it was bad that her OCD got her to the point of hallucination it also brought AJ (her BF), her new friends and poets corner.
