I learned that the 1950s was the cornerstone of modern technology. Many new gadgets arose to make everyday life a bit easier. New music was invented, there were many medicine breakthroughs, and new media sparked. I learned that with the invention of the television many people started to have their own style and act differently than previous generations. I also learned that the 1950s was the most groundbreaking decade yet. I enjoyed researching this topic, and I hope that you enjoy the presentation.
C. Jones

The 1950s + "Beyoncé and Social Media"

The 1950 was an era of change. So, with change the people began to change, too. In this decade, people started to figure out that you can be different than your peers. In the 50s, people began to form an individual self- image of themselves that they could express through clothing, music, and new technology. Although the 1950s and Beyoncé are on two very different ends of the spectrum, they do have common ground. In "Beyoncé and Social Media", the author, Melissa Avdeeff, writes about how Beyoncé puts lavish pictures into the world, and how hard she works. This creates Beyoncé's self image as a hard working woman who's actions allow her to do magnificent things. Like in the 1950s, men and women alike wanted to create an image of themselves that others long for, just like Beyoncé.
C. Jones

-Emily Churchill
While most of us know that social media wasn’t in the 1950's, it doesn’t mean that celebrities back then don’t have anything in common with celebrities today. Beyoncé shares what she wants the world to see much like people in the fifties. In the fifties it was easier for people to have a private life unlike today with the technology we have. Social media allows anyone and everyone to see into the lives of people we admire. Hit singers today and back then all wanted the same thing: for their music to be known. With the help of social media today, music can reach people easier. The 1950s and Beyoncé are similar because they both inspire people to do good, change the world, and impact lives. The 50s are still impacting people today and I'm sure in 60 years Beyoncé will do the same.

The 1950's + "Beyonce and Social Media"

The fifties was a time for new technology, but it was nothing compared to the technology we have access to today. Beyonce is one of the most influential people in the world today, and it can be hard to have any sort of private life, but she manages to only put certain parts of her life out on social media. Celebrities in the 1950's had a much easier time keeping things to themselves, and they did not have to worry about things getting out that they might not have wanted to get out. Like people in the fifties, Beyonce wants to portray power and control over herself and her personal things, it's just harder for her to accomplish, but I think she does an excellent jobs with this.

-Heather Gray

The 1950s were a booming time of new technology, television, and movies. The economy was thriving which allowed people to live a perfect life. In the fifties, celebrities had more control in keeping their private life since the social media then wasn’t all important as it is now. Celebrities today can now share whatever they want to with their fans through social media. The social media today also allows fans to keep up with their favorite celebrities. Unlike other celebrities today, Beyoncé seems to keep her life more private than other celebrities on social media, just like how celebrities in the fifties only showed what they wanted people to see.

Olivia DuPont
