         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dalton theorized that the atom, like a pool ball it was solid and hard.&nbsp; he we did not know anything about protons, neutrons, and electrons.<br>Based on this theory, Dalton developed 4 postulates:</div><ol><li><br>All matter is made of atoms. Atoms are indivisible and indestructible.</li><li><br>All atoms of a given element are identical in mass and properties</li><li><br>Compounds are formed by a combination of two or more different kinds of atoms.</li><li><br>A chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms.</li></ol><div><br><br><strong><em>Some Facts About Dalton:</em></strong></div><div>A theory of chemical combination, first stated by John Dalton in 1803. It involves the following postulates: Elements consist of indivisible small particles (atoms).  All atoms of the same element are identical; different elements have different types of atom.          <description><![CDATA[<div>J.J. Thomson's experiments with cathode ray tubes showed that all atoms contain tiny negatively charged subatomic particles or electrons. Thomson proposed the plum pudding model of the atom, which had negatively-charged electrons embedded within a positively-charged "soup."<br><br><strong><em>Some Facts About J.J.:<br></em></strong>In 1906 he demonstrated that hydrogen had only one electron per atom. He designed instruments to pas cathode rays through a magnetic field and he was the first to determine the mass-to-charge ratio of cathode rays. In 1908 he was knighted for his contributions to science and in 1912 he received the Order of Merit.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1913, Niels Bohr proposed a theory for the hydrogen atom, based on quantum theory that some physical quantities only take discrete values. Electrons move around a nucleus, but only in prescribed orbits, and If electrons jump to a lower-energy orbit, the difference is sent out as radiation.<br><br><strong><em>Some Facts About Niel:<br></em></strong>In 1912 Bohr joined Rutherford. He realized that Rutherford's model wasn't quite right. By all rules of classical physics, it should be very unstable. For one thing, the orbiting electrons should give off energy and eventually spiral down into the nucleus, making the atom collapse.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Erwin Schrödinger showed that the quantization of the hydrogen atom's energy levels that appeared in Niels Bohr's atomic model could be calculated from the Schrödinger equation, which describes how the wave function of a quantum mechanical system (in this case, a hydrogen atom's electron) evolves.&nbsp; In the world's most famous thought experiment, physicist Erwin Schrödinger described how a cat in a box could be in an uncertain predicament. The peculiar rules of quantum theory meant that it could be both dead and alive, until the box was opened and the cat's state measured.<br><br><strong><em>Some Facts About Schrödinger:<br></em></strong>In Wild Arms 3, the character of Shady the Cat, owned by Maya Schrödinger, is based on Schrödinger's cat, and is claustrophobic as a result of the "experiment".</div>]]></description>
