I loved the movie Matilda growing up. I watched it often and Miss Honey was one of the reasons I wanted to become a teacher. She was such a nice person who really loved her job and her students. I wanted to be like her when I was younger so she was the first character that came to mind when asked "what it means to be a teacher." In this scene, we can see how kind and caring Miss Honey is and that no matter what is going on in her life she shows up every day for her students because she truly cares about them. I think that that's what being a good teacher is, showing up for your students and having a true passion for teaching them.

I believe that compassion and kindness are the bedrock of being a good teacher. If a teacher is not able to empathize and show genuine kindness to their students, their students will lack trust and motivation to learn. If a student feels like their teacher is unkind they will feel unmotivated, they may grow to resent school as a whole. I belive that kindness goes a long way and that Miss Honey reflects what it means to be a kind teacher.
