Does Suspending Kids Work?

1. In the article the claim is that in fact suspending kids does not seem to work for the good. They support this claim by stating that these out of school suspensions tend to exacerbate the problem and even cause academic behaviors. They also say that these suspensions don't really feel like a punishment seeing that the student basically gets a free day off of school that they probably don't want to attend anyway. These supports would be considered under the logical appeals of the reader.

2. Purpose- To show the reader how racially discriminatory the suspension/school disciplinary system is.
The author uses repetition and pathos to attract the reader. These connect to the purpose because when the author continuously shows the racism that certain schools are implementing into the system, it allows the reader to feel empathetic for the victims.

Who is getting suspended and where?
3. This article really made me think about how the suspension system works. This connected to the other article I had read about the racial discrimination of suspensions and how most of the suspensions in the United States happened to black students. This article also mentions that and says that most of the suspensions are occurring in Southeastern United States.

3. It makes me so upset to see what this world has come to after all of the changes we've made to society to better the racial tension in communities. But yet people still find ways to make others of the opposite feel as if they are outsiders when we all know that they are not. This raises the question in my eyes, "Will this problem ever stop?"
