the aim of this exparemtent was to get a better understanding of how to do reduction cuts and over al get used to the technique as a whole. It was also for us to test the process of how to correctly apply the ink and make the actually print.

I was able to bring interest to the background and leave less negative space in the final drawing by having vertical and horizontal cuts overlap and using swirls.there was also an general outline of the person making it ease to tell what it was. 

There is a lack of contrast in my front I feel like I need to carve more in lighter and mid tones out in layer one and two so that there is not so much ion the darker show in ayer three the most effective part of my print is in my. Also raving out to much of the face for the final layer as it resulted in losing some of the details in the face like pupils. 

opinion is where I sued different technique's like curved lines in the background as it bring contrast as most of the lines in the face and clothing and background were shout straights and diagonal and v shaped cuts. The use of creating vertical cuts on top of horizontal ones gave the sense of over lapping layers of them being sown together. The use of some swirls in the background made the straight lines stand out on the figure.

My use of space was a well amount as I used up almost the whole Lino with very limited white areas or areas in which their was not a design. Although some of the designs could have been more promenade for example using more swirls in the background to contradict the straight lines from the rest of the piece.

making sure to carve more in each layer. eye noes and mouth ayer non ecestante due to carving them out to early could have been solved if I carved more out in layer two for the formula point is more differed.

Things that I think went well were things like my experimentation with lines and cuts and use of negative space. and during my final cut I was able to shape everything and add more detail.

Though unfortunately when carving my design I did not carve enough out in the first two layers which made it look very empty and with a lack of design and my whole work was relying on the final print which included all the outlines. 

With visual effects I tried to use crosshatching to create a sort of pattern on the clothes to give it more detail and a better idea of the material of the clothing.

When regarding my use of space I think I did a poor job at using the space affectively as there was way too much negative space that looks out of place and bland for this piece. In the future I need to cut more into the first few layers to limit that negative space.

To practice carving the layers and printing it, as well as to practice using each of the tools.

the experiment turned out well and I learned to use multiple different carving tools. I learned how to print well and how to print multiple layers on one paper.

I didn't manage to cut out enough in layer one and two, so there wasn't really much contrast. There were some lines on my linograph that should have been brighter and could have been carved out in layer one but I missed it and carved it in layer two, which was a mistake that I can look out for in the future.

My use of tools somewhat show depth and the thickness of things. Some tools were used for shading and others for details.

My use of negative space was good. I carved some sort of vines around my portrait and carved flowers on some of the ends of the vines.

I would maybe use more of my space as well as carve out more in layer one and two.

My aim to to set and create a clear image of Amy Winehouse. 

I think because the sketch looked good, the product looked good if the sketch looks good then the product would look decent, in my opinion.

At first I thought we were doing stamps like the example of the bob marly print, so I was half way into the stamp and then I realised we had to do layers, I honestly didn’t know how to do it so I just winged it, it still looked good, my print, but it didn’t fit in the criteria. 

From what my intentions where in the first place I fixed into making lighting onto the hair, arm and background, I used a skinny tool to make these effects. 

Most of it is negative but I added some design in the background but it is pretty boring, because I wanted to do the stamp and that wasn’t the criteria 

To not be confused and fit the criteria, because I now know how to do it I just wanted to try something different. 

- I want to understand what diffrent tool can help with this experiment and what type of line it give off and how to use them correctly.  I also want to know, how many colour is good for my artwork and how dark or light it should be. I also want to learn how to paint it.

- As I use the tool, I notice that I use the V tool well as I use it to cut out the detail and small part. I also find it easy to do the straight line and it smooth to do it. I also find  U shape easy, it help me to cut out the big part and save a lot of time compare to the v shape. when I the color, it go well and I see how cool it look and it make me more understand after the second layer.

- it is hard to paint, because the outside alway end up with color and some picture of the color are out of place because it hard for me to put it on the paper. as I try other shape other then V and U, it hard to use and I mess up however I fix it by using other shape.

- The affect that it give off me with the straight is that it give calm and emotionless however when I use the make a curve, i feel calm with with sad and confront emotion. when I make short like it feel like somthing is not complete but when i use long line, it will like somthing good is happen.  

- At first my use of space is bad as there is not much background however I add some shape in the background to make itt look more complete and detail.

- I would try to place it carefully on the paper so it will look more clean and nice.

I was aiming to make a portrait of a character from a movie with difference color scheme, texture and also to experiment how to use the tools and carve out difference lines and see what worked and what did not

The big v shape tool worked very well in term of carving the parts where I wanted to carve a lot example at the hair and face I need to take a chuck out and the big v shape tool worked best. The small one work best at the small detail and spaces, it also support the big v shape tool very well for example, after I take a chuck out, the line is not even, so I used the smaller one to even it out.

It is a bad idea to use the bigger shape at a tight sport because the lines is not going to be even and it take too much out. Some parts that I carved out does not come out and show a line in the print this Is because it is not deep enough, so next time I will have to make sure I carve the smaller line deeper, so that the texture could appear in the same printing.

The smaller tool give off kind of a sharper feeling to the art (like needle), I think the big u shape tool give off a more normal and relax feeling and the big v shape give off a more wavy feeling to it. 

I think I used the space on my lino really well because I think the person is big enough to fit in almost all of the space in the lino plate but it also leave some negative space for some background. I leave some positive space on the back ground but I don't think it is enough. 

Next time I will make the person show more of her body because if I do it like this, It leave too many negative space on top. I will also add more texture to the background because if I do it like this it look too empty. I will also carve out more in the first layer to show a better pattern because I think most of parts are in yellow which is the second layer. Next time I will also leave some more positive space to attract more attention to the art.

In the experiment, I want to working on using different type of tool (V shape and U shape) and using the negative space. 

I think using space was working well because I didn't see anything empty space. and one more thing I did well on is caving the texture of the hair because when I print it I can see the detail of the hair well and clear.

the thing that didn't do well was the portrait small and that make it very difficult to make it more detail like adding shadow or making the eye and nose more detail. 

the V shape tool make the cut look small and the U shape cutting more it look bigger. and Put the highest color first then the darker color.

the first time I plan I didn't use much of the space but then it look boring so I put the cloud and some raindrop and waving line into it.

My aim was to really just explore how to lino print and experiment if I cut it here or cut it this way what would it look like? I experimented with some hatching to showcase layers (I did go a bit overboard) 

The shoulders and the face contour went really well. You could clearly see which part was hit by the light and which wasn't. The messily cut hatching technique worked well on parts such as the ears, shoulders, cheekbone and hair highlights.

I didn't hatch the face as neatly as I could, it looks very rushed and out of place. The shadows of the majority of the other body parts did not sync with the shadows of the front of the face. There were parts that needed to be cut so it would look much cleaner and more refined - this is due to my lack of planning and just going straight for it.
I don't know if you noticed but some eyebrows were missing, this was a mistake on my part because I cut way too aggressively in the second layer to save time for printing. 
The flowers and leaves in the background look like it was 

I used the thinner-shaped tool to create the detailed pieces to be highlighted and darkened. 

It is very much filled, there is almost no negative space because I added flowers and leaves last minute (which now I think was unnecessary). The girl takes up to 1/2 of the print so there was a lot of negative space to work with (refer to layer 1) however the way I executed my idea was not the greatest.

Plan much more thoroughly, the flowers and leaves were very last minute so I could have something going on in the background. 

For my art piece I am going to focus on showing a specific way I have changed over 3 years. They're are two changes I am going to focus on for this piece one being my discovery of being non-binary and also my eating habits. The function of this piece is supposes to be to convoy is for me to show what part of me has changed over a few years but also how its effected me.The emotions I want to express is acceptance over the things I have changed and how to
I want to invoke the sense of understanding as to what the issues was and how I have been able to over come the issues.  

The hair is the main idea of this art piece it relates to my physical appearance, “I have dark hair to show that I am not dumb”. I am a natural blond and blonds have so many stereotypes especially women, the stereotype I was constantly called is a “dumb blond” and science the age of 7 I died my hair every colour in the rainbow to hide my natural blond hair, now I have brown hair after a while of changing my hair so many times I’ve calmed down and decided to have brown hair. It is especially hurtful to me because I am a learning needs student and with dyslexia, dyscalcula, and a slow learner but it’s not just my hair that makes me dumb, I can be smart. 

2 clothes 

The clothes represent the past and bringing nostalgia to my childhood because those were the toes of clothing items I would wear when I was little, I show this by the flowers and the knitted cuoler t shirt.

3 wings 

Again relates to my childhood because I used to dress up all the time and wings would be my daily accessory, but this can also show how confidant and free I am now and then, I am a very confidant and comfortable person (my friends say) and I think its always been the same since always. 

4 facial expression

A neutral expression is seen on a childs face daily, they could bee in the worst scenario and sit there with a careless face, I think this can relate to how I didn’t care before but know I’m more iffy about my blond hair.

5 first layer colour 

My first layer is going to be yellow this will be seen mainly with the hair because, the hair is blond in that photo.

6 zoomed in (half portrait)

The half portraits gives the same meaning as before, however the artwork its self is more zoomed in and more detailed, shading, expression, eyes, mouth, and how its more pure and from the heart because its more close up I think you can connect with it more. 

7 second layer colour 

The second layer for my print is brown as you know this is my hair colour now so this colour represents the present, and how I have changed, doing this summative one of the criterias is to see a change and development in the past and present, you can see that in my layers of colours. 

8 last layer colour 

My last colour is black this could mean a lot of things but I chose black to represent the feature just because my 2 previous layers mean the past and present. 

9 thin fine lines (curvy)

The thin fine lines is to show that my younger self shows a lot of purity and you can see this by the thin and fine lines. 

10 bold lines (deep/ v shaped) 

To make things more bold and standout. 

Before this unit, I didn’t know how to use the tool or know that that type of artwork exists so by learning this unit I will be able to understand that artwork is not just painting and has different types. Before I didn’t know how to use a tool or to paint. So at the start of the unit, I feel lost and I don't understand, I feel like I'm confused a lot with different layers. By this I mean I have to use the tool to carve out lino so I can paint different colour into the paper however I was so confuse that I don’t know what to carve out, it also because i was scared that i get it wrong so I think i might use up alot of time at first to get use to these tool and the lino. However as the time goes, I am able to understand how to use it even though I still feel confused about what to carve out so I alway ask my teacher if I carve out lino correctly so I will be able to make sure that my artwork is right and I won’t make any mistakes. I am able to use different types of tools and I think it is very useful like the V shape. I am able to use it for the detail and the small part that I need to carve out. I am able to use the ink and paint it into my paper. I make sure that there is not so much negative space so I make a circle curve line so it will look more detailed and not so boring.

For my final artwork, I have used different tools to communicate like the water that is in my final artwork, I use a v shape to make a curved line like a wave in the ocean or river, it is to be used as a water line to show that I feel like I'm drowning. I also know that using different type of colour also can tell my feeling, like blue that I use in my final piece. I also know that if i use a book in my final piece it will give idea to other that it is about school and grade and I also have put me drowning in the book and the book have ocean in it to show the affect of school to my life.  I also use a monster in my final piece so people can know that bad thing is happening and get an idea of what happen.

I think it is important for us to create a art that is a form of self expression because people be able to communicate about my problem though art, it is also can help people with their mental health as people be able to talk about their problem so they can at least the problem that people are carried can get out of their chest a little though making artwork, art work is also can use as a hobby for people to express themselves when they are so stress and when they have no one to listen to them or they cannot trust anyone so art that use as self expression can make them feel at home and peaceful. It can make people want to do art more and just want to stay there because it makes people feel peace from their problems. Artwork that people use as self expression is helpful, to some people, they don’t have money to get help with their mental health or they don’t have anyone with them that will listen to their problem so it is help people without cost money to talk to therapy because their art work can be their therapy by them making something that express themself, which can make them feel like they not alone and it can people to be able to put their strong emotion like anger or stress into their artwork so the people can calm down after making art that express themself.

I think it is important for us to make arts as a self expression because in an art piece we can freely express ourself and shows our emotions and we can use symbolism to express those feelings making the meaning look more powerful and we can express ourself while making something that we love which is art and it simply give the art more meanings and it can also make the audiences who has the same problem to feel more related to the art and it could act as a form of therapy for my audiences. 

              My creative thinking skills have developed much deeper throughout this unit in terms of using symbolism, colours, composition, and use of negative space. I learned that using scale, hybridization and metamorphosis and repetition in my piece helps to show the blend of the past and the present and how it depicts my current characteristics. It also displays the repetitive cycle of human suffering and helps to tell a story in a more subtle and complex way. Without the use of creative thinking strategies, I feel like my composition would have looked too literal and obvious. I have plenty of symbols within the pose, the accessories, hair, clothes and lines. For some pieces, I’ve chosen to use contrasting colours (ink + paper) so that they would pop, and it was still able to send a message of feeling unsafe but willing to protect who I was/am. In terms of composition and use of negative space, it’s dynamic and the piece draws your attention to the right places and gives meaning to the pose and symbols used.

                 It is indeed important because it's the purest way to express a range of emotions. Whether the emotion is depression or love, one can express it in many different ways, especially when it's done in a form of an art piece. By being able to express oneself, one will be able to understand the deeper-rooted emotions that can’t be expressed through words themselves. For some, self-expression through the medium of art is therapeutic or relaxing for them and can possibly lead to a decrease in many self-degrading actions. Another reason why it's important is that one may be able to connect with anyone using art. Whether or not the emotion is mutual, it could be an emotion that one has felt before and now a wisp of nostalgia is upon them reminding them of the “bad” or “good” days. For some it might be an emotion that they are experiencing right now and don’t know how to explain it, knowing that someone else is feeling the same can help validate their feelings and allow them to embrace it instead.
