Data collected on the event (strength of earthquake, type of volcano, temperature of the lava, height/speed of the tsunami waves, etc.)
The San Francisco earthquake had a magnitude of 7.9 and it lasted a minute. Not only was there an earthquake, there were also fires. The fires after the earthquake lasted three days and destroyed about 500 city blocks.

6. What Earth Systems were involved in this disaster? What sphere(s) were affected?

During the San Francisco earthquake three out of four earth systems where affected. First the Biosphere was affected. This system was affected because the earthquake killed lots of people and animals. The second system that was affected was the Geo-sphere. This system was affected because the earthquake caused lots if cracks in the ground and when buildings collapsed on the ground the Geo sphere was affected. The last system that was affected was the Atmosphere. The Atmosphere was affected because after the earthquake a fire broke out so it affected the air and the gases in the atmosphere.

(Were there new safety regulations put in place, or did scientists learn something new about how the world works?)

The San Francisco earthquake not only had negative effects, but also positive outcomes. An example is that this disaster has helped further our understanding about earthquakes and how they form. Also, scientists learned from this event that the shaking was stronger on soft ground compared to bedrock.

(Were there new safety regulations put in place, or did scientists learn something new about how the world works?)

In addition, the earthquake helped engineers learn that the location and structure of the building is important during an earthquake. The 1906 earthquake also helped people be more prepared for the next one. Besides, the 1986 earthquake's damage was less sever because people where more prepared.
