Evaluating the progress of children is a complicated issue. Especially in early childhood (kindergarten) we know that the use of standardized assessment instruments are not the best way to evaluate the progress of young children. Because we want to understand the development of the child as a whole, observations about children's growth provide a much more individualized, accurate, and up-to-the-minute picture. I think portfolio assessment offers a variety of benefits. Portfolio collections give information on the children’s personal styles, accomplishments, strengths and difficulties.

Innovative tools are more effective in measuring students' reasoning processes, understanding of interconnections, ability to perform complex tasks and attitudes. Though reliability of portfolios is questioned, it seems a great way fo a student to measure their own progrss in time and develop to be more autonomous, in combination with the self assessment process. One way or an other, all these tools can support formative assessment and help develop key competences and transversal skills.

In my every day work in class, I notice an enormous difference in the summative assessments and the formative assessments of the students. Some of them may lack theoretical knowledge (having low performances in their summative assessments), but have excellent digital competences, social competences and problem solving skills. We have to put more emphasis on the kind of assessments that enable teachers and students to understand how good they are in problem solving tasks. This is what they will have to do in their future work, doesn't matter which sector it is going to be.

Real-time training that gives you skills measurement and problem-solving attitudes is what sometimes seems the right one in a pupil's assessment. I find that many pupils have difficulty solving problems but then properly guided them into the goal and others that by personal capacity and a good method of study succeed on their own. A different way to evaluate students, based on their skills and willingness to learn. The summaries made at the end of the year take into account all those cross-cutting factors, such as creativity, intuition, and skills demonstrated during the school year. scale scales are used for scanting from insufficient failure.

Creativity and personal reasoning might be tangible in classroom formative assessment, but it seems much more difficult to me to get a grasp on effective emotional management, let alone teaching it to the students. On the other hand, raising the student's self-esteem seems to be a key factor in the student's motivation to take part in the lesson, especially in language classes. In this case, the student's self-assessment could be helpful for the teacher to get an inside-look from the student onto the lesson / course.
Sometimes students' feedback to the teacher is very helpful, too, but it needs a respectful and trustful atmosphere - and time.

Greece
We are all accustomed, more or less, with the traditional type of assessment. We are used to measuring smaller or larger bits of content in short tests or longer exams. Formative assessment seems more challenging and more difficult to be put into practice. But it seems as the only way to evaluate the learners’ performances in real life contexts. Portfolios have already been used in my school but not on a regular basis, and it sounds very true that they should lack in reliability because, according to practice, it all depends on a subjective point of view. ICT-based assessments seem to be a lot of fun and more liable to capture students’ reasoning progress and ability to solve complex problems. It is also true that on line platforms stimulate the students’ interest and enhance their social skills. The ‘low-tech’ approaches such as longer classroom discussions in the classroom seem equally important but its efficacy depends also on the subject being taught, unless it is taught on interdisciplinary basis. But it is true that we could guide our students realize certain things (thoughtful contributions) at a deeper level, or identify misconceptions. All we need is a little patience and ampler time given. And we come to the final point: transversal skills and self-assessment which is more vague and difficult to grasp but not less important. It is true that it needs a good classroom management and serious decisions about what to leave out (curriculum). It is true that there a lot of work to be done in order to help learners get in touch with their knowledge acquisition, management and regulation of feelings. It is vital for them to learn stand on their own feet.

Portfolio is a very interesting idea. I ink it was adopted some years before also in Italy but, if I am not wrong, it consisted in a series of documents to be filled in by the teachers and some documents to be filled in by the students for self evaluation. I think they remain only papers and only increases the load of work by the teachers. However I think that e-portfolio could be a good idea and I think that it will be useful for assessment without loosing time and avoiding an increase of the teachers’ load of work. In theory portfolio should be the main way to assess students’ knowledge and competences as it considers also the learning process of the students and furnish them the right feedback.

I also believe that the most important part of assessment is what it is called “ valutazione in itinere” which mean to assess the students’ learning process and their progress during the developing of a project.

Portfolios are an important form of assessment in which a student's progress is measured over a period of time. As students create their portfolios, they are actively involved in and reflecting on their own learning. Portfolios offer the teacher, but also students, an in-depth knowledge of the student as a learner.

Innovative tools, such as portfolio assessments, ICT-based assessments and simulations may be more effective at capturing students’ reasoning processes or ability to solve complex problems.A portfolio is a place to store data on student learning. It is compiled over time, and is intended to be representative of a learner’s progress. These entries can contain information about learners’ performances on tasks in real life contexts.
