Biotechnology, at its most basic, is the harnessing of biology through technology, in order to produce new products useful to people. 

Be they microscopic creatures, responsoble for making cheese and yoghurt, or harnessing a complex internal biological process, (such as the process of making milk), and modifying the process to make a new end result.

Modifying living organisms is something we've been doing for 1000's of years, slowly, through selective breeding. Choosing only the most desirable crops or livestock to reproduce. Biotechnology allows us to greatly refine and accelerate this process. Not only does a degree in Biotechnology offer students the opportunity to progess in a cutting edge science, often seen as a, if not the key science that will colour the coming century. But it also afford the successful student greater opportunity in obtaining many secure and stable jobs, not least of which includes a teaching profession, allowing graduates to return to the classroom environment, in order to share their passion for science with the next generation.

An example of such a career specific to a 'Science Degree' or having 'Degree in General' would be teaching as a Biology, Science or Chemistry Teacher at your school! In fact, almost all teachers will themselves have degrees, usually in their respective fields.

Although a BSc in Biotechnology offers a considerable deal of freedom when it comes to applying for a job, there are some jobs, where a degree in this subject just isn't quite enough. These careers require you to take it one step further, acquiring a Masters Degree (MSc) in the chosen subject, or even perhaps a Doctorate (PhD).

An example of such a position would be a PhD - Research and Development Scientist at P&G.

P&G of course, is a well known and very prominent household brand, and according to one such job description, parent of such companies as "Always®, Ambi Pur®, Ariel®, Bounty®, Charmin®, Crest®, Dawn®, Downy®, Fairy®, Febreze®, Gain®, Gillette®, Head & Shoulders®, Lenor®, Olay®, Oral-B®, Pampers®, Pantene®, SK-II®, Tide®, Vicks®, and Whisper®"
