Daisy loved Gatsby but to an extent. As soon as Myrtle was dead she went back to Tom as if Gatsby was out of the picture completely. Tom loves Daisy and even became jealous when Gatsby and Daisy were affectionate towards each other. Nick on the other hand likes Jordan because of her looks. The song is basically about a guy wanting to be with this girl, but she's kind of distant and really hard to chase. And he would go the extra mile for the girl. In a way, it reminds me of Gatsby's and Daisy's relationship, because Gatsby took the blame for Myrtle's death. Even though Daisy ran her over. And he basically did everything he could like become rich, have fancy cars, nice clothes and more, just for her.

You have Gatsby who wanted to become rich and successful. But his other goal was to have Daisy by his side. So in a way he’s still searching for that dream still. Sadly this never happens because he was shot by Wilson. This happens because he had thought Myrtle was killed by him and didn’t know that Daisy had killed her. I think he uses it for hope. And to me I kind of have that same idea with sunsets. Like I would look at a sunset and just have hope that the next day is a brand new start to something. Like if I didn’t do homework, I’ll just have to use that next day to get it done.
