Set expectations early on and stick to them. Post classroom expectations and school policy and enforce strongly. Learn names by seating charts.

We want them to feel welcome, safe and comfortable taking risks. We have students share their cultural backgrounds, complete an About Me project, ice breakers, provide students with jobs.

Have reminders that we are here to learn and grow and that mistakes are apart of the process. By having structure and clear routines will assist in making this process successful.

Assign a trust worthy student to be the designated “student ambassador” to help new students find their way around. Have the student fill out an “about me”. After, assign a “buddy” group within the class that has similar interests to help the student feel comfortable.
