Being in a social studies classroom, to provide students with background knowledge or a strong understand of a historical concept, I like to incorporate and include different visual aspects. I believe this guides students through the process of making content relatable and “real”. Often times, I will show these visuals on a PowerPoint. When this occurs, students shout out different comments about what they are seeing and want to talk about it- which I love- but too much discussion sometimes leads to the mishap of not finishing the entire lesson for the day. This is where I think Vialogues has the ability to really create discussion between students, their peers, and the teacher in an interactive, timely, and effective manner. Along with this, Vialogues also has the ability to allow teachers to upload their own videos which they have created. This can assist teachers in constructing a flipped lesson where students are on their laptops, but still requires them to participate in conversation. The purpose of Symbaloo is to help technology users bookmark and locate their most valuable/visited websites. From a teacher standpoint, having all students install this application on their computer would be incredibly helpful for the fact that they would be able to bookmark all important school websites. This makes the process of using technology in the classroom less of a hassle because students will not be required to use a search engine to manually type and locate any website, instead, they will just open Symbaloo and find the website they are looking for! Regardless of the discipline that students use flipgrid in, I think that it guides students in strengthening their socialization skills, interaction skills, and self-reflection skills, all while learning about their specific content. While it may be slightly uncomfortable for students at first, I have found that it is something that they grow to love! This also gives parents a chance to see their students learning in action and their growth over the span of a school year.
