For the text to end in a proper manner, that being a final denial of the military complexes that Yossarian found himself ensnared by, gives a fulfilling conclusion while illustrating the continued problem. Using his satirical tone through Halfoat’s ridiculous dialogue, Heller forms a comedic mood for the scene. Halfoat’s story is already satire, as he is claiming that his family has “oil-sensing abilities” due to how often they get kicked off their land by oil companies, with the claims getting more and more ridiculous. However, in this passage, he directly contradicts himself multiple times. He says that he was invited to hotels while simultaneoulsy not being allowed to stay at them. He says that racial prejudice is evil, while acting prejudiced towards several other racial groups in the next sentence.
