In America, black people are roughly 6 times more likely to be incarcerated than white people. Indigenous peoples follow a similar pattern, also 6 times more likely. For example, Mr. Wells mentioned how different Indigenous languages are to English. They are verb-based, with intentions of doing and action while English is noun-based, focusing on the tangible and materialistic objects. Something he mentioned that also resonated with me was disconnection from culture and ancestry, something I empathize with and many people who are first generation immigrants may experience. 
Vance spoke about being 2-spirit and being a knowledge keeper for their community, and something that was surprising to me was that one's gender identity, while decided by the individual, is also equally decided by their role in the community, and the community itself.
