They pushed me down, buried me in the snow until I couldn’t breathe, thought I’d never breathe again.” This portion from the short story “Indian Education”, is similar to TEWWG because the story talks about a Indian girl who was always brought down all through out grade school because of her gender and race; like Janie (was brought down because of the same reasons). It is not yet daylight.” This excerpt is from the poem “The House Slave” and it talks about how a slave from a long time ago knew that things were to change (It is not yet daylight), knew that there would be the daylight that would shine someday; that racism would stop and freedom would exist for blacks. I feel we have gone forwards, knowing that slavery isn’t a thing that exists anymore and was banned a very long time ago. Having the ability to maintain that power dynamic, in itself, was a white privilege, and it endures. Racism is the individual and group level process and structures that are in the reproduction of racial inequality. Racism displayed in Their Eyes Were Watching God has gone forwards in todays time in the aspect of Gender(women). Black women, like any of the women in America have the ability to have basic needs essential for life like food, water, and shelter without the need for a man being in the picture. I personally believe we have come a long way from how people displayed racism over 100 years ago; but we're not there quite yet. Still to this day, the hair aisle in stores still display "Hair Products" rather than a section for "Ethnic Hair Products". Bandaids are still made for the majority to be light toned, and dark skin colored bandaids are very hard to find. Bias racism is a belief about a certain race. An example of bias racism is a white person crosses the street to avoid walking by a group of young black men.
