A major contributor to social isolation in youths is that we have a consent need to check our phones. Teens and young adults feel the need to see what they are missing out on in the world outside there own. This has caused us to have weaker social connections and less of them as well as have a greater general feeling of anxiety caused by missing out.

The modern youth is more connected to there phones than the "friends" that they sit next to. This has caused a major feeling of isolation in teens. The depression rate of teens has been recorded at 20%, this is correlated with increased use and duration of social media along with perception of isolation. The lowered rate of face-to-face conversation has caused a social epidemic. The skills needed to understand that the foundation of social media is addictive is not taught to youth now because there is a disliking of teenagers. Many older people believe that the younger generation are no good lazy and inexperienced.

The problem faced when trying to diminish the affect of social media creating isolation in youth is that the affected youth are not fully aware of the problem or they aren't interested in learning about it. This has prevented much action from taking place to help people who are not already looking for answers. Still the main form of combating the problem is to spread awareness of it.

Figuring out how to truly teach children how to use social media reasonably, and spreading the idea of companionship among people needs to start happening in the home.
