Future Living Proposal: Individual Work (50% LO1 & LO3): Based on a given scenario or house type, propose innovative technologies that can be applied to the refurbishment/renovation of this building into an innovative and sustainable home. You are required to identify technologies from other industries (manufacturing etc.) you would adopt for the given building. As part of the proposal, you are required to add a short write up of the appropriate methods or processes to be used in implementing your proposed technologies. A2 (1^st June 2021)

Could this be presented as a poster at A2 documenting the existing building and then the proposed amendments. Prepared in InDesign and illustrated with orthographic drawings, annotations, plus 500 words analytical text on each poster.

Although module selection can be significantly influenced by transportation dimensions and shipping distances between the manufacturing facility and the construction site, modules are easily transported to virtually any site conditions. Volumetric units are suitable for any building sector but are particularly popular in the education, healthcare and student accommodation sectors. Applications also include commercial offices, hotels and MEP plant room solutions.

According to a report from the Waste Resource Action Programme (WRAP), compared to an equivalent traditionally-built project, up to 67% less energy is required to produce a modular building. Some modular buildings are now being installed with energy-efficient systems such as energy-efficient glass, geothermal systems and solar panels pre-installed.

Green spaces in our neighbourhood dampen down noise, absorb pollution, give our kids a place to play and repopulate our cities with wildlife. Being surrounded by nature reduces stress and we are happier and healthier the closer we live to water. We need to prioritise nature in our built environment, we should plant everything that doesn’t move, use the rainwater we usually drain away to feed ponds, rivers and green verges so that every new neighbourhood is an oasis of green and blue.

A future neighbourhood should be green by default, supporting a low carbon lifestyle that makes sustainability second nature. Good urbanism embraces the challenge. A combination of sustainable construction, energy-efficient homes, green transport options, shared services and more reasons to stay and play local combine to make low carbon low cost and low maintenance. Our homes and our neighbourhoods should be green in every sense and in every detail, making the things we should do into things we do without trying.
