In the ninteenth century with the growth of the United States, Cuba became a major sugar supply across the globe.

The Spanish conquistadors arrived in Ecuador in 1531. Upon arrival in Ecuador the Spanish founded two cities Guayaquil and Quito, which still exist today.

The process of colonisation in Ecuador began in 1531 when the Spanish were able to take over the land. In the 18th century Ecuador became apart of the Viceroyalty of Peru, although in 1563 Quito alone communicated with Spain. In 1822 Ecuador sought to become an independent country following several other independent countries across the world and managed to defeat the Spanish royal forces and become an independent country of Spain. From 1822 to 1830 Ecuador became a Republic of Gran Colombia until it became its own sovereign nation. In 1860 the Catholic Church gained power in the country and the trade of cocoa lead to the countries strong economy.

The impact the Spanish had on the native people of Ecuador was both positive and negative as the Spanish did introduce disease and death to the country although it allowed Ecuador to become and independent country and advance in economic trade.

However, contrary to most North American tribes, the South American counterparts resisted, and many were conquered and exploited. Many also died off of diseases that were introduced by the Europeans. Population estimates in the colonial period of Argentina stated that there were more than 400,000 people. Of roughly 30% of this number was the indigenous population. This was a steep decrease from the Pre-Columbian estimates of 300,000 indigenous people. (Calvert) A large proportion of this number was Mestizos, and European descendant were a small part in this estimate. At the time, Cuba was slowly yet steadily becoming a sugar plantation colony, a process that was accompanied by a growing demand for slave labor.

Equatorial Guinea was ceded by the Portuguese to the Spanish in 1788, designated by the Treaty of El Pardo; the process of colonisation by the Spanish was relatively short, because Portugal had already done the majority of the work in establishing it as a colony and continued to hold authority even after it was ceded to the Spanish. However, the native people adopted Spanish and Spanish religion/beliefs/cultural values as a result of Spain's takeover.

The effect on this country was devastating because of the continued fights for African territory; there were several wars fought and territory lost over the years Spain held it as a colony, and a swathe of economic exploitation and exploitation of the native people. Equatorial Guinea became a home base for the slave trade because of its location, the social ramifications of which drastically changed the social and cultural roles of the native people within their country.
