A honeycomb is an example of a tessellation found in nature. Bees create their combs out of hexagons that create a tessellation with no gaps or overlaps to maximize their use of space. This tessellation with regular hexagons could be created using translations and rotations. The interior angles of a regular hexagon are 120 degrees. If three hexagons join together, the interior angles sum to 360 degrees which is why this tessellation is possible.
