We will rise from the ashes. This is a group for single parents after escaping an abusive relationship. This group will be for 6 weeks and is the first group in a series that those who have been through domestic abuse attend. This group touches on a variety of subjects and at the end of the 6 weeks, you choose a smaller group that goes into greater detail of a subject that you are struggling with. These groups interconnect so that you have a bond with everyone in the center for months and years. We also help with childcare and provide dinner in order to alleviate pressure for parents and allow them to attend without obstacles.

The group will learn self-motivation and self-learning as we give them books and other tools that htey can use on their journey to healing and learning how to trust and thrive once again in their daily lives. We are going to give them coping skills not only for them but their children as well because trauma and abuse affects the parents and children. We will show them how to identify the blocks they have in their lives and give them tools in order to continue to thrive and not survive. We want them to go from victim to survivor and have a testimony and pathway for others to look at, and follow and to inspire others that freedom and a safe life is possible. They will elarn to advocate for themselves and their children and learn that their are resources and we will give them the resources to foster healthy relationships in their lives; whether it be socially, educationally, work wise, spiritually or intimately.

There will be a sign up sheet at the front desk of the Community Center! You will grab an information sheet and take it to the director of counseling. This is for privacy and so that nobody but the people in the group know who is participating and that will be revealed during the first session. The director will also be taking that information to make sure that the security personnel know who to watch for, so that no abusers can enter the center while meeting are going on and so that nobody gets this information. This group's members have major safety concerns and those will be address and taken care of at the highest level. This group has a flyer that will be put around shelters, the center, and will go out via email and be put on our facebook page. The flyer will give information and direct people to the center to apply; so that those who want to be in the group know that their safety is our top priority.

Your info sheet for the group will go to the director of counseling and she will go over your information. She will make sure that you fit the criteria for the group. She also will make sure that you have provided all necessary information. The most important pieces will be your abusers name or any of their associates and if you have pending legal matters or orders in regards. We want to make sure everyone is safe and we want to make sure that nobody will be compromised in our group. We also want to make sure that we are within legal boundaries, this also allows our security more leway because if you have a standing RO against someone and they come to our center then we can call police and we can have the RO enforced. We want those who are ready to move one and learn to thrive and not survive; we may suggest another group that we feel is more suited for you and if that is the case then we will call and have you come in and speak with you directly.

I believe that a democratic leadership style would work well for this group because the counselor running the group also has prior experience in an abusive relationship. This group is truly all of the group members and the counselor working together toward a common goal. These members need to know that they are not alone and that this counselor did not simply read on domestic abuse but actually lived it so that they can truly give them guidance in their lives. This is the starting group for everyone in the community center on their journey. I truly believe that the group must work together counselor and members for the group to be successful.

Installation of Hope and Universality are the two main factors that I hope our members get from this group. I want them to know that they are not alone in their fight and their are others who have been through abuse and have lived to thrive in a better life. I want them to know that there is hope that you don't have to live in fear and that you can overcome one of the hardest battles of your life. I also want imitative behaviour to be an aspect because I want people to see what has worked for others and realize that it may work for them or to take aspects from this person's testimony and that person's testimony and combine all these parts into one avenue that is tailored to them and works for them.

There may be instances where we have to disclose your story or your information to the authorities especially if you have an ongoing case. We may also have to reveal that you are attending our class if there is a credible threat to you or your child. We will always let you know if we have to disclose information for your safety, we also will not just release your information without regard to your safety. If an abuser comes to our center and we have to take legal action, then we will; or if the court requires our cooperation; then we will discuss that with you. We will always give out as little information as possible in order to protect you at all costs.

This is in the ACA Code of Ethics:
B.2.e.

Ethics are a large part of this group because neither the counselors nor the members need to disclose any confidential information and all information that is said in the group needs to stay within the time and walls of the group. "F.7.e. Teaching Ethics
Throughout the program, counselor
educators ensure that students are
aware of the ethical responsibilities
and standards of the profession and the
ethical responsibilities of students to the
profession. Counselor educators infuse
ethical considerations throughout the
curriculum. " (ACA 2014 Code of Ethics)

We will go over ethics at the start and end of each session because confidentiality is the keystone of our group. We want thsoe who are coming to the group to feel welcomed and we want them to feel free to share and know that their stories and their taumas will not leave the walls. We have a strict policy on those who violate the ethic expectations. A member will be asked to leave and will be banned from the center altogether and a counselor will be fired, banned and turned into the state and authorities to be prosecuted if need be and have their license revoked if the state sees fit for that to be the outcome. We ask that you look over these and if you find a counselor in violation of these, please let the director of counseling know immediately.

Stage 1- This first stage is crucial in our group because form the first session we must build trust with the counselor and the other members. We will have many exercises in which the members can get to know one another and the counselor will be giving her testimony, so that the members can see that she to has a story to tell. We will also go over the group rules and confidentiality of the group. Confidentiality is something we pride ourselves on, so that will be a topic we go over and we will go over the consequences of not keeping confidentiality.

Stage 2- Every session we will break into small groups for part of the session. The main group in session one will have sub-groups and this will be your small group for the entire 6 weeks. The hope is that these people become close and lean on each other and hold each other accountable. We will come together as a whole group the last half of the session, so that we can end our sessions. The end of each session each member will have to fill out a survey that they will turn into the counselor; this way the counselor can identify any needs or concerns for the members. The counselor can also identify areas where members are excelling in order to give them praise and also can identify areas where a unique resource may be helpful for them.

Stage 3- The way the group closes is that in the 5th week of the class, members will choose their next group. This is the starting group for our members that have been through abuse and are starting their healing process. This group is mandatory for all members and then they can go into different groups that go into more detail over specific areas that they are wanting to heal from. (ex. childhood trauma, trusting others, beginning a new life, overcoming triggers, ptsd class). We will do a survey to make sure that the class did accomplish what we intended and that the members feel like the last 6 weeks has been beneficial to them and has helped them on their journey. We also will schedule a follow up at the last meeting, so that the members and counselors can continue to have a relationship and members know they have many people who they can go to in a time of crisis or praise. We also will emphasize the importance of confidentiality to the members and the need to keep that confidentiality even after the group is done with its sessions.
