With reproducible 1A and 1B they allow the students to show different ways to shade in a particular object. The objects are more than the normal circle and rectangle and some require deep thought in order to show equal partitioning. I think that a way to do this before writing the story (word problem) would be to just tell a story aloud. This not only helps with communication skills, but has the students just think about their story without having to worry about writing it down. Some students have trouble getting their thoughts on paper.
