Water purification is to remove contaminants from raw water to make drinking water that is pure enough for human use. some of the stuff that we take out of water are Cryptosporidium bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, minerals (including toxic metals such as Lead, Copper etc.), and man made chemical pollutants. Many of these contaminants are dangerous but some get taken out to change the smell taste and how it looks.

Brampton and a couple of other city"s get their water from Lake Ontario. This water is treated at two treatment plants, the Lakeview and Lorne Park Water Treatment Plants, operated under contract for the Region of Peel by the OntarioClean Water Agency. Brampton gets it water from there because instead of getting the water from the cost line they go far out in the lake to make sure there isn't alot of pollution.
