The Tuskegee Airmen destroyed 251 enemy airplanes. The Tuskegee institute trained the country's first Black military pilots. The Tuskegee Airmen had roots in Illinois. No one called them “Tuskegee Airmen” until later. Eleanor Roosevelt supported the Tuskegee Airmen when others didn't.
