St. Pierre and Miquelon are two islands off of the south coast of Newfoundland that still belong to France. They never did become part of Canada.

I did Canada West, which was also known as upper Canada. We did the farmers of Canada West because it was one of the main occupations in Canada West. Now Canada West is called Ontario. The farmers of Canada West were helped out by confederation because the confederation train helped them transport there crops and food to other places, which made them more money.

Emma and I decided to do our history assignment on the Red River Settlement, which is mostly the Métis people. The Métis are of both Native and European blood and usually speak a variety of languages. The Red River Settlement is in Manitoba, which was known as Rupert's Land back then. The Métis weren't pleased with the idea of Confederation; the land they used for hunting was going to have a railroad through it and that means less animals to hunt and use the hides for trading. If the government got their way, the Métis families would have to redesign their farmlands and they would have limited access to the river in the square properties, as opposed to the long strip farms that give each family equal access to the river.

The Metis people did not want confederation because that would mean to them that their land in the red river colony would change and the hunting wouldn't be as good.

I did Newfoundland.

Newfoundland was first a part of Britain. Then moved to Canada in 1949. They were the last colony to go in Canada

The location impacted confederation. The reason why is because they were on an island so they could only be with there own colonies.

I researched Newfoundland and I learned that their location had a huge impact on Confederation. Because they were an island, it was hard to contact the other colonies. The only means of transportation that they had were by boat.

The economy in Newfoundland was made up by fishing, which they traded with Britain for clothes.

Newfoundland joined Canada in 1949, and they were the last colony to attach to Canada.

I researched information on the Metis living in the Red River Settlement before Confederation.

Their land was getting split up and a railroad was being put through for Confediration.

The Metis didn't like this because they used the animals furs and hides for trade and that would soon be taken away because the railroad may cause some of the animals, including the buffalo which was one of their main uses, to go elsewhere. Trade was also something the Metis liked to do a lot.
